Florida with no reservations March and April
Thinking of sticking out most of the winter at home then thawing out early in Florida in March and April, what do you think my chances are to finding places to stay for two weeks at a time around Cocoa, Ft Meyers.

April would be OK, March would be much more of a challenge, but doable, if flexible. Most of our winter neighbors won't move until April 1st and many will wait to May.

I don't think you'll have a problem. You may have to make a few calls in March. But April will be no problem at all.

Ft. Myers really empties out around Easter, and the weather is great!
Come on down.

State parks will probably still be difficult to get into, especially in March. Most RV "resorts" have a few spaces open for transients.

WP Franklin COE Park is near Ft Myers and you can only book sites 6 months in advance so you should still be able to book a site. No sewer but they have a dump station and the sites are beautiful. We have the senior pass so we got 1/2 price sites and that was quite a bargain. I wish we could go back again this year but unfortunately, we'll be staying up north. It'll have to be skiing instead of beach going this year.

second on state parks. Almost impossible to get in. This past feb-mar-apr i was checking 4-5 state parks withing 100 or so miles of me in tampa to try and get in for a weekend. It was mid aprl till I was able to get in one.
They really need to change the way reservations are done for state parks in Florida. So many make reservations way in advance and then cancel. the fee to cancel a reservation is only 17 dollars or so. If I was king. I would charge 50% of what the reservation would have been (cancel a 5 day reservation then you pay 50% of what the total would have been) I would also only allow two cancels per person per year. You cancel one that is fine pay the 50% fee, Cancel a second one you pay the full rate and you are not allowed to make a state park reservation for a year. So many play the system resulting in empty campsites and campers who would love to use them not able to get in.

Sure glad you're not King, agree people play the system, but if you get sick or other personal reasons that are legit you feel people should be nailed???? how about not allowed to make a different reservation for the same time period cancelled? can of worms coming up!!

That is why I would allow the first to be only 50% of the total reservation. It needs to be slightly painful to cancel. At least I think it should be. I know it will not change. I am just a simple taxpayer in the state, the real money and influence is the tourist and that system is set for tourist/snowbirds. I can dare to dream!
