Florida's booked, going to Missisippi

We tried to get a site in North Fl in April but everything is booked solid, must be spring break.
So we've decided to try Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, Missisippi. After being destroyed by Katrina, they have rebuilt the park, with full hookups at all sites.
We've never been to MS or New Orleans so this will be a first for us.
Anybody familiar with this park and the area and have any advice on stuff to see?
At $24 bucks a night with full hookups, seems like a good deal.

We have been to several SP's in MS and have found them to be great values, very good senior discount too. We have not been to this one yet, but MS also has what they call 'water parks'. These are run by the various water districts and are very much like COE CG's. There are several NPS run CG's as well. Two of which are on the Natchez Trace and free. Pickup an offical MS state highway map. It has the SP's, Water Parks and other CG's listed with the corresponding map location (A 4, B 9, etc.)

I don't know what you mean about NW Florida being filled up - I just checked Big Lagoon State Park near Pensacola, FL for April and except for the very first week they have lots of spaces available for the entire month. (I don't know what's going on that first week.) It's only fifteen minutes from the beautiful beaches of Perdido Beach and about the same to the wonderful Aviation Museum at the navy base. It's not right on the Gulf, but it's on a very nice bay and is a very nice park. Also, the many nice campgrounds at Blackwater River State Forest are first come first served, and are usually available with no problem if you get there before the weekend.

The very first week of April.....that's when we're going. I checked Big Lagoon also, they had 14 sites available last Saturday, when I went to book on Monday they were completely full. Oh well, maybe next time.
We've been to the aviation museum and it is awesome. I could spend a few days there.
In MS we'll be an hour or so from New Orleans, which we've never seen so that we'll probably do a day trip there.

Prior to Katrina, Buccaneer was a great park for kids. It had a nice water park. It has opened back but with out the water park. It is on the beach but in April, the water will be cold and dirty.

These days the biggest attraction (for some) along the MS coast is gambling or golfing. In fact, Hollywood Casino About RV Park
has a great RV park for about $35 per night. There online reservation always says they are booked but reality is they are about 1/3 full. Call them if interested.

Silver Slipper casino is right down the street from Buccaneer.

Do you have a toad? If not you might want to consider dumping some cash at the French quarter RV resort for a night. French Quarter RV Resort - French Quarter RV Resort Walk around during the day and take a cab at night.

In N.O. you can visit a lot of history including the Cabildo and the WWII museum.

You may also try Alabama's gulf coast. Alabama State Parks
Great beaches but April will still be cool.

Just inside the Louisiana border from MS are lots of swamp tours. Here is one sample. Pearl River Eco-Tours - louisiana eco tours, louisiana plantation tours, honey island swamp, bayou tour, new orleans attractions.

April is the heart of crawfish season. Find a seafood market or resturant for 4-5 lbs of boiled crawfish per person. Ricky's Grill is a few miles from Buccaneer state park. Seafood Restaurant Bay Saint Louis, MS - Rickey's Bar & Grill

Have you tried Fort Pickens in the Gulf Islands National Seashore? It is on Pensacola Beach. It is only $10/night with Senior National Park Pass?

We've stayed at Buccaneer State park before and drove through the park last month to check it out. The pool and water slide is not open yet. All of the sites have full hookup, all roads and sites are black toped and in good shape, I'm sure you will enjoy your stay there.
