We decided not to stay too near New Orleans, been there years ago so "been there done that"and really don't feel comfortable camping there now! This campground is nice, big lots, free WIFI that works great and with Golden Age card, its $9 a night. We spent a week in Ms.visiting relatives and checking out the condition of Biloxi. We'll be here until the end of the week and then will be heading somewhere in Tx.

Yall need to exit the campground and get on Highway 22 and head West. When you get to Madisonville go thru town slow. (After the drawbridge across the Tchefunta river) As you get to the edge of Madisonville proper you will see a little "Whole in the wall" place on the right hand side of the road right next to a power line substation. (North side) The name of the place is "The Spot". If you go on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday they have all you can eat boiled Shrimp, crawfish, blue crab and Dungeness crab. (I get the Dungeness myself) GOOD EATS!

If you want a "Burger", there is a little old time drive in burger joint named "Badeaux's" on the South side of Hwy 22 in Madisonville. Good burger.

If ya want there is another dang good place on the Little road that runs along the river on the West side South of Hwy 22 named "Morton's". My favorite there is called "The Shrimp boat". It consists of a hollowed out piece of French bread that has been toasted (Garlic and butter) then filled with fried shrimp. But they have a wide assortment of stuff on the menu that are GOOD.

Not that I know anything about the area..

When you are crossing the river on the bridge look on the South East side of the bridge. You will see a house boat sitting there. My uncle has had that houseboat there since in the late 70's. I have spent many a weekend at "Fairview Riverside State Park" also over the years.

Anything else I can help yall with about the are just send a PM or something.

Don

Don,thanks for all the good tips, the shrimp boat at Morton's sounds really yummy! We were originally going to stay at Fairview Riverside campground at Madisonville but it was full and they recommended this one. We'll be sure to look for the "antique" houseboat!

We finally made it to Mortons today, went yesterday only to find out they were closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Great food, but Don wished you had warned us about the size of the portions, one shrimp boat would have fed both of us! The shrimp were really big and tasty and the bread so good we ignored the french fries. thanks for the tips!

Ahhhhhhhhhh, South Lousiana and the Cajun Cuisine. Epicurean Heaven is where you're headed when you start partaking of the food around that area. Although we used to think of those across the lake (Ponchartrain) as Rednecks, there's enough of those cajuns to definitely influence the food. Yeah, pig out!!!

Fountainbleau State Park has always been a great place to go. When you wade in the waters, you can dig up the mussels with your toes, collect them, and have a great steamed seafood plate. It took some Cambodians who came to New Orleans to show me what it waw I had been missing.

The State Park in Madisonville is great.

Good luck, good living, and Bon Apetit.
