We will be going to Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon for the first time in September this year. The information provided by their web site shows me that it is a very large park with many many sites. We want a full hook up site that will accommodate a 36ft motorhome and parking for our tow . We will be traveling around 1300 miles to get there so we will be reserving a site in advance. Can anyone recommend any sites and possibly have any pictures of the campground to aid us in our selection process. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Richard & Peg

Richard,
Try Googling Fort Stevens State parks images. I just did and there are 26 or 27 pages of pictures. Maybe this will help.

And...

Although it won't help you with site numbers, we often times use Google Earth to get an excellent birds eye (and often even street level) view of where we're going.

Oregon state parks are second to none. You'll love them.

Hi Richard and WELCOME!!!

I want to go there, as well, and am watching for an answer to your question.

RickO is right, Oregon State Parks are gorgeous and well cared for.

At the risk of sounding political, our State, Local and Federal Parks are a gift that we need to fight to keep and protect.

Thank you all for the nice welcome. I viewed the pics. Thanks. Very nice, not allot of campground pics. We had the opportunity to visit Oregon coast a few years back and stayed at Carl G and really enjoyed our stay. We are looking forward to our up coming visit. I will also try the google approach. Thanks

Richard,

I do not know if you found this or not but go here and then scroll down to Ft. Stevens. This guy describes the different sections:

Google Image Result for http://www.delsjourney.com/images/close-ups/us/travels_nw/us_101/1-0761-Campsite-at-Fort-Stevens-State-Park.jpg

I typed in campground, fort stevens state park, or and got a good amount of actual camp site photo's. Some were connected to Blogs with reviews. Hope this helps...

campground, fort stevens state park, or - Google Search

Sheila

If you're more than a week or so after labor day, you may not have a lot of choices. Although the park is open all year, they close down most of the camping loops shortly after labor day and only open them as demand requires. When we were there last (Feb). only loops H and I were open.
I don't remember any sites in the north section that couldn't accommodate a 36 foot motorhome, and most had a place to park a car. (we had a 34' but no car). The hard part is leveling - these sites are in the trees and are NOT level - we backed in and needed a stepstool to get to our lower step.
The sites closer to the main road or on the east side of the main road appeared to be more level, but those on the west of the west loops were quite steep. (of course, those on the east of the loops that were open had no privacy)

Also - watch for the raccoons - they are NOT afraid of people and are quite aggressive about stealing food - stole a box of crackers off the table right in front of my wife before she realized they were there!

We often use State Parks and have never been disapointed so fare. To get information and make bookings we use 2 fantastic web sites. Here they are displaying information on Fort Stevens state Park:

Reserve America - type in "Fort Stevens State Park" where it says "Park name" on your left and press ENTER.

RV Park reviews

We rarely go anywhere without having checked RV Park reviews first. We think that this is our best bet to avoid inferior campgrounds. To make this work it is of course important that people provide a feedback once having stayed at a particular campground. Otherwise the information become outdated and eventually useless.

hi
We have been there many times. Yes, it is a very large park - basically divided into two sections. Some treed areas and some open (sunny) areas. In our experinece; sites are pretty level - some totally flat.
regards, pdq

Thanks to all for your input. We now have a better idea on what to expect thanks again. The main thing is that we have a safe and trouble free trip. Everything else will be a bonus.

Hello;; I purchased a tractor from the park, The ranger was nice and he gave me a tour of the park , and all it's history. With all its gun bunkers, it was a strategic millitray post in WW2;; if there is a chance for you to take the tour, DO it; its fantastic; Oh are you in a winnebago .?? As we will be having the state rally the 3 weekend in SEP. and Oregon the week after at Polk cty. fair grounds .. Life is so darn good;;;
