I think it depends on what time you are coming in and leaving. When I first started going to the Fort I had a travel trailer and could not pull a golf cart. I would always rent one and pick it up at check in and have one of my guests follow me back to my site with it. Depending on what time I was leaving I would usually do the opposite when leaving.

Absolutely agree about the bikes. Even a better solution than the golf cart but with 3 new knees between the DW and I - not happening this time. Gotta say the $90 per day for the premium site and then the $62 per day adder for the for the golf cart is THE best buy at Disney World. Fort Wilderness is a park into and of itself. All the advise from our fellow vagabonds made the visit truly Magical (excuse the pun).

Spent spring break week there his year and kids loved it. Had a premium site and rented golf cart. Golf cart is a must there imo. The hoop d doo dinner is a good time as is mickeys backyard bbq. Both are highly recommended

How to get to Universal?

How would I get from Fort Wilderness to Universal Studios and Harry Potter Park?

If you don't have a toad with you, call a cab (there will be some sitting at the reception outpost most of the time).

What about Bill Frederick Park for camping?

Has anyone ever stayed here? It is right down the road from Universal, much closer than Fort Wilderness. I am meeting family members at Harry Potter land so I just want to be close, don't need the experience of Disney, itself.
Thanks for the info.

We are going soon too. Our third trip but we will be venturing off of Disney property for a couple of days (Universal, Legoland, etc.) Was considering renting a car but thanks for the taxi idea! Wasn't even thinking about how much it costs to park at these places. It will probably only work within the immediate area but will still save me money. Has anyone found that it is at times impossible to get a site at Fort Wilderness? We had a lot of trouble booking this time and it was more than six months out. We even checked some dates next spring and couldn't find anything for more than 4 days except pop up sites. In the end we had to shorten our stay and stay elsewhere. I always prefer Fort Wilderness but didn't have a choice this time. They should add more sites.

We just left Fort Wilderness 3 days ago. We had site 1019. I think it's Raccoon lane. Great place to camp. We had to rent a golf cart just to get to everything.

Kissimmee KOA and the Fort are both about the same distance from Universal. We've stayed at both and they are both terrific. The Fort is a must IMHO if you are doing Disney attractions. However is you are traveling to Universal up I4, you will find the KOA is a great place to stay. They have very nice patio and big rig sites.
