From Southern VT to Nashville, TN in April

We are headed to Nashville, TN from Vermont in April. The Southern Route (1100 miles) looks simple, I88 to I81 to I40. We will probably take 3 days to do this. We would welcome any tips/tricks, feedback on places to stay on the way down, places to avoid and maybe a few things to see, not too far off the highway, just to give us a break for an hour/two on the way. This will be our first multi-day "road trip" in our new Motorhome, can't wait!

First, congratulations on the new MH. We toured the Entegra plant last summer, and came away from the tour with a WOW, what a great coach!
Being originally from Maine, and having gone to college in Nashville (Vanderbilt) and now living in KY, we have made the trip from ME to TN and back many times. We have discovered that there is are significant limitations for campgrounds along the interstate routes from NE south, until one reaches PA. We plan to stop just over the NY/PA line in Port Jervis. There is a welcome center right off I-84 after coming down the big hill (if southbound). We were told that it was OK to stop there overnight, and there is plenty of room once the center closes for the day. There are numerous campgrounds once you proceed south on 84 and I-81 (if you choose to go that route. There is Flying J truck stop on the W.Viginia/Viginia border at Winchester on I-81, again, plenty of room and easy fuel access. TN, and the especially the Nashville area has many great campgrounds and most, are included in your campground directory. Have a great trip and enjoy that great new motor home. BTW,if you would like to have additional information, shoot me an e-mail and I would be more than happy to respond.

There are also two Flying J's in Wytheville where I-81 and I-77 come together. We have stayed at the one on the South side of I-81 and they had an area for RV's only which was quiet enough and comfortable for us to spend the night.

I would agree with Bronk's directions or if you were looking to avoid some of the traffice you could come over through Troy and take I-90 to I-81 in Syracuse and then take 81 south. Either way, have a great trip and enjoy your new Entegra.

We traveled I-81 from PA to Sevierville, TN last year. We traveled about 300 miles and stopped in Lexington, VA. Lee High Campground is located just off I-81 on the west side of the highway. They have camp sites that are pull thru/ full hook-ups or they have dry camping available for just $15 per night. Check it out on-line. It is a truck stop with fuel, parts, service, restaurant, etc. It is easy on and off the highway.
