We always overnight at the Larry and penny Thompson RV park and CG
in S. Miami before driving to the city of Key West; that is near a 6 hour drive(45mph speed limit in Keys) between the two stops.
Never stopped near Gainesville, can't help there.

Williston Crossing is in the Gainesville area and is a very nice park.

If you go to Cedar Key, Low-Key Hideaway is an interesting place to stay. They only have a handful of sites.

If you don't mind stopping a little earlier, I would recommend Stephen Foster just north of I-10, easy access off I-75. It is a great Florida State Park. You can see the actual camp sites by searching it on YouTube (there are several videos with overviews of the park and one that shows each site).

Gainsville FL Campgrounds

We think Williston Crossings is very pretty! Or, you can camp Paynes Prarie State park.

I would recommend the Starke KOA also. Easy in and out off US 301, Walmart just down the road, plenty of places to eat close by.

X3 on Gainesville/Starke KOA. Very nice, paved roads, concrete pads if
you ask for/book one. Easy in and out. Stores nearby, peaceful&quiet.

Re Starke KOA. There are train tracks nearby. They don't bother us, but our coach is pretty quiet. The train noise may bother some people. Just wanted to put this out in addition to recommendation.

I have used Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and found it to be quite nice.

It's 4 tenths of a mile, not 4 miles.
