Gaspe Peninsula Trip

We are planning a trip this summer to Montreal, Quebec City, and along the St. Lawrence to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. While "in the neighborhood" I am considering driving along the coast around the Gaspe Peninsula on Hwy 132. I understand the scenery is magnificent, but have read reports about questionable road conditions and there don't seem to be a lot of campgrounds to choose from. We are in a 45' DP towing a Jeep. Will the roads be ok for our rig, and are there campgrounds suitable for a 45'er? CG suggestions would be appreciated as well as any ideas about how much time we should allow for this area. Thanks in advance for any input!

We traveled around the Gasp three years ago and really enjoyed it. Our coach is only 38 feet long and we did have a toad. The two rv site's I can remember are at the national park and the one over looking Perce Rock. Both of them we really liked. At Perce we overlooked the water and the Rock. I'll never forget that view and at the National Park we were parked in the woods. There are some steep hills and curving roads but nothing that your rig can't handle. I think it you would be wise to contact Quebec provincial tourism and get information on Gaspe and in the summer I would make reservations at the NP campground.

Thanks very much for the info. Gaspe looks like a gorgeous area, and we are looking forward to the trip.

Did the Gaspe last summer in our 42' with a tow. Beautiful country - the roads are no different than the country roads in the states. We had no problems - would not hesitate to do it again. Campgrounds are plentiful. You will have no problems. Consult the Trailer Life Campground Directory and you'll see all the choices. In all Canada, you wont find a lot of 50 amp sites. Since the weather up there is cooler there is little need to run all air conditioners so power should be no issue. Also watch in Canada, many campgrounds have low power - sometimes as low as 103V! Be careful what you run. Get a plug in volt monitor and keep an eye on it. Enjoy.
