Looks like plans have changed - no W. Virginia this trip. But we are thinking of going to either Tallulah Gorge, Unicoi or Cloudland Canyon SP.......First two are NE GA and last one is NW GA. We went to Vogel SP last year and loved it. Any suggestions. The families have a 32 ft fiver and a 34 ft fiver!

Thanks for any suggestions!

We just want mountains and lots of them! We live in the flatlands of South Florida.....ugh

We went to the Gorge last year and was great. Campground next to it was good and pull thru's were ok.Rest of campground was tight in some spots. Spend two days at the gorge and walk to the bottom. Some of the signs gave wrong info. Well worth the trip, especially the Center at the Gorge.

They are all great parks. Why don't you plan to visit one this time and future trips to the others? GA has the best overall State Parks of the few states we have camped in (FL, GA, NC, SC, TN). That's not to say the other states have bad park systems... it's just EVERY Ga State Park we've been in was wonderful and we loved it. Don't forget it get cold in the mountains at night, even during the summer. The hwy at Tallulah (441) is under construction. I don't think it will ever be finished but they claim it will be done with next year. So you might want to save Tallulah for another year.

I am hoping that we can do Tallulah Gorge for 4-5 days and then Cloudland Canyon 4-5 days & then head south towards home.

It looks like it might be a LONG drive to get from one to the other though. I wonder IF I might need a one night stopover some place inbetween....

If you do go to Cloudland Canyon make sure you eat at the Canyon Grill. It is about 1 mi away form the park. The rangers recommended it to us. Best food we ever ate!
The park is wonderful as well. You can read my recommendation on RVReviews.com we stayed there 9/07.

Unicoi State Park is the best. They have paved sites, restaurant on site and great food in Helen. Tubing is available, fishing and hiking to several falls. Be sure to make reservations early as they fill up fast.

Another nice one is Moccasin Creek SP on Lake Burton. Good level sites. Stay away from Blackrock Mountain. It's beautiful but from what I understand the road up to it is so steep they put a warning sign at the bottom.

Another good option on the way between Unicoi and Cloudland Canyon is Fort Mountain SP outside of Chatsworth -- good facilities, a lake, mountains, good weekend buffet at the Cohutta Lodge nearby. I agree: GA parks are very good.

You didn't say when you were planning your trip for, but. Last weekend when we were there Cloudland was doing some major renovation. The east rim campground is having the sites totally rebuilt. The west rim is also undergoing some electrical upgrades, and the lower half is closed.

If you haven't been to Helen, go. If you have been to Helen, go again. It's that good. It has been several years since I have been there, but it is on my list of places to visit again.

If you are in the mountains of N. Georgia, you gotta go to Enota campground. www.enota.com We went throughout the region last summer and stayed at 4 different campgrounds and this campground was BEAUTIFUL!!! The next trip, I'll stay here exclusively. It has a 400' waterfall on the property and was awesome.
