Gettysburg area
We are taking a 2 month trip. West to East coast and back.
I got pretty much all the campgrounds lined up except for Gettysburg.
I would like your recommendations between the following:
Artillery Ridge
Drummer Boy
Gettysburg campground
Round Top
Or any others you know of. Just the wife and I pulling a 27ft. TT. We don't need a lot of extra stuff, just a clean, quiet campground.
Planning on 3 full days in the area to explore the sights. To little of time for basically the battlefield and surrounding stuff?
Your comments would be appreciated.

We stayed four nights at Artillery Ridge last October. It's a nice campground, nothing special but it's the closest to the battlefield and museum.
We had a pull through site, the place is clean and well cared for.
I don't know that we'll ever be back, but I would choose it again.

We actually had a nice stay at the nearby KOA.

Hi,
Artillery Ridge for me. The closest CG to what you want to see.

I use Artillery Ridge because I can ride a bike all over the battlefield and into town from there. Biking I think is the best way to tour the area. Horseback riding is available from the campground as well.

We stayed a week at Drummer Boy Cg, Gettysburg in 2016 -- loved it! Beautiful, shaded sites, but big-rig friendly. Nice fishing pond if you enjoy fishing, too.
Caveat - forums we read in 2016 said avoid going through downtown Gettysburg on US30 -- fyi - we were approaching from VA on I-81 and overnights en route (south to north) :
3 days at Yogi Bear Jellystone - Williamsport, MD (Exit 1, Lappans Rd, this is on I-81 just south of the I-70/I-81 interchange). Nice park, great staff, and big-rig friendly.
Route to Drummer Boy when we left Jellystone, we used I-70E to Frederick, MD and then N on US15 to the Hanover Rd exit --to Drummer Boy Cg. US15 was 4 lanes, ez/pz route.
Enjoy your trip!

Another vote for Artillery Ridge. Like others, we were there off-season, so didn't even check on stuff like a pool, etc. Some sites open/pullthru, others among some trees/back in. Accepted PPA, which made our decision easy. Easy access to the monument. CG also offered free passes to a couple of museum/tourist traps. Would use it again.

Like others said the proximity to the battlefields and NPS Visitor Center is fantastic. We were there in early November and they had a nicely put together Halloween weekend. Not all spaces are as level as one would hope and if you are satellite TV diehard you have to be careful about tree coverage. We will definitely return to this campground.

We'll be coming down from the NE(NYC area). Looks like I-78 to hwy 15.
Will avoid the down town area. I'll check the KOA also.
Anyone stayed at Gettysburg campground? Good reviews.
Last time I was in the area was 1990 and that was driving a car.
Thanks for the input so far.

Drummer Boy. Well maintained and expanding. Also very convenient to the local attractions.

Made reservations this morning for Gettysburg Campground.
Looked at all of them on youtube and their websites
Got a reserved site along the creek. About $10 cheaper per night than the others.
There doesn't seem to be a bad campground among them. All get good reviews.
Thanks to all who have replied.

Might suggest you try to find another route other than I-78! That road is ROUGH! We came in along 78 from NJ end, never again! Worst interstate we've been on - potholes, open expansion joints, etc. At times we were down to 40 mph to keep from shaking apart. Now from NH we head to Albany, NY, then I-88 to Binghamton, NY, then I-81 south to either I-80 or further to jct with I-78 near Harrisburg - road is better there. ST
