Gettysburg Campgrounds

Heading to Gettysburg area in late September, looking for a good campground. Does anyone have any experience in that area?

Artillery Ridge Campground

I've been to Artillery Ridge Campground several times. Nice place! They also have horseback riding onto the battlefields if your like that kind of stuff. The owner Jim Kralik is a very good man. He escorts the rides onto the battleground with narration through headsets.

Great time of year to visit. The weather is generally very good and the tourist traffic is much lower. As a part-time resident, I can't help you with specific campground recommendations (although I hope to get out and check them all out soon). However, if you have any questions about the area, I can possibly help answer them.

A few years back we stayed at Drummer Boy. I thought it was good, with lots of space. Weren't there much anyway.

X2 on not staying long at the campground. Maybe it's my driving skills, but I found some of the areas in Drummer Boy to be tight with my old 41' HR. Also beware of the large rocks that they've placed along their roads.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the campgrounds near Gettysburg. We have used Artillery Ridge for the last couple of times, I like being able to ride my bike into the park with just a short bit of highway. Some of the others might have a better appearance if that matters.

Hi CutieFac,
This is anther vote for Artillery Ridge. It is close to NP HQ visitors center and the battle ground. Close to down town. Nice place to stay.

We use 'The Gettysburg Campground' - good access, close to town and sights. Robert and his crew are very conscientious...grandkids loved the large, sunny pool. There's an on-site RV repair set-up...sure helped when I needed some welding done...

Safe travels...enjoy...

We stayed at the KOA there about 4 yrs ago. At that time we were in a 36'H towing a car and found the sites to be well sized for our setup.

Just came back from a Rally at Gettysburg Campground. Big rig friendly. I would highly recommend them.

We have stayed at Gettysburg Campground and it was fine. Try not to take your RV downtown. When we were there, it seemed like lots of people were lost (including us) and the downtown area has narrow roads.

We just stayed at Drummer Boy in early June. The campground is along a major highway so road noise is an issue plus it's 1 mile from entrance to back where we were camped. Had to rent a golf cart $$ to get around due to hilly terrain. Lots of seasonal campers and challenging to navigate for larger rigs. I'll look for another campground next time.
