Planning some time at Glacier and Waterton.

Is it possible (with an RV) to drive around the park (south) from W. Glacier to E. Glacier, then go north and wind up in Waterton...all in one day. Or, should we stop at St. Mary's.

We will have been in W. Glacier for a few days and will have already done the Road to the Sun.

How is hwy 17 into Waterton?

That is a possible trip. We did that but got to Waterton Peace Park and there were no sites available. We went on up to Pincher Alberta.

If I understand you, are you asking to drive the RV thru Glacier? If so forget it. I think they only allow a vehicle no longer than 20 something feet. Speaking of feet, I didn't drive (my friend drove) and my toes stayed curled the whole trip. Would do it again thought, beautiful park. St Mary had two CGs, one a KOA and the other on the side of the hill in St Mary. The KOA was easier to get in and out of. Waterton in a must see. There is a private CG just outside the gate of Waterton that use to be a fish hatchery that is nice, The host are real nice. Also plan to visit the "Great Canadian RV Resort and Barn Dance." (make a reservation) Probably my favorite CG ever. Its about 30 miles from Waterton. s/Toby

I realize that I can't drive a motorhome through the park. The question is how long will it take to drive around the park, through East Glacier, and up to Waterton. Can this be done in one day?

I have reservations at Waterton Park.

If you are going to Waterton Park AB then yes, it is doable. The road from West Glacier as far as Goat Lick is fine and relatively straght.

My Rand McNally software says 134 miles.

So in a day you have lots of time. In the summer it gets dark there around 10 PM or later as I recall.

Jeff, It is a one day trip from W.Glacier to Waterton. US 2 around the South of Glacier, through E.Glacier(don't blink), then North on MT49 to Browning, US89 through St. Marys to MT17. Canadian highways are not as clearly marked as US highways, so plan ahead. Be advised after you leave US89 you pass through open range areas, with cattle unexpectedly on the road.
