Going to Clayton NY

We are leaving first of August first stop will be Clayton NY. Will be staying at the Merry Knoll campground. We plan to visit the boat muesum, and the Boldt castle. We will stay two full days, the off to Wilmington, North Pole Resort. We are planning to take the car to the Eisenhower locks, visit Lake Placid, and take the ferry to Vermont. We also have Fort Ticonderoga on our list. I'm looking for any advise on what else to see while we're there. I am planning to take rt#3 thru the Adrondecks to Wilmington. We have heard how pretty the area is, and looking forward to seeing for ourselves.
