We are staying at the Yellowstone Valley Inn halfway between Cody and the east entrance.
You will get better suggestions if you tell us from what direction you'll be coming.

If you can get by with electric only, buffalo bill state park has 2 campgrounds. One right on the lake west of Cody and one further west where the Shoshone River dumps into Buffalo Bill reservoir. Biggest sites near Cody. All the RV parks are very tight.

Our research indicated the same. Closest that looked promising to us was the Yellowstone Valley RV Park.

We just stayed at Three Mile Campground, three miles from east gate. They had a few spots that would handle our 40 foot MH. No electric, no water, but very peaceful. As an added benefit. Staying there, you are only 20 miles from Fishing Bridge General Store, where they have the second best pancakes in the US. The best being at Winners Casino in Winnamuca, NV.

Right now I am sitting in the Absaroka Bay RV Park in Cody. Full hookups for $29 (GS discount), half the price of the nearby KOA. No cable, but decent internet. All pull throughs. Not a beautiful park, but it gets the job done. Not sure where we will stay once we enter the park, view the sights and head out the south entrance.

Today we are in West Yellowstone at the Grizzly RV park. VERY nice, green well watered manicured grass, paved roads, curbed gravel sites with pine trees. TV, internet, walk to town. $60 though, but much cheaper than the KOA miles out of town. And not too far from attractions on the west side of the grand loop. Easy flat drive from the interior. We paid $80 for a terrible site just west of Moran Jct near the Tetons, an hour from the south gate. But don't miss the Tetons, take the Teton Park Drive, it is a flat road with lots of spectacular views of the Tetons. And we took the gondola from Teton Village to the top of the mountain, well worth the time. Not that far from the south gate.
I suggest parking your 5ver here for several days and touring without dragging your it up and down the grades. Also some great sights like Old Faithful and Prismatic Spring have limited pull through RV parking on busy days.

There are at least 2 campgrounds inside Yellowstone that are ok for 40-42' motorhomes. We stayed at Bridge Bay which is dry camping but Fishing Bridge has hook ups and has sites for 40'.

Colter Bay RV Park in the Tetons was beautiful with full hook ups at $45 a night. Grizzly Park always gets good mentions here but I came into the park from the same way you did and had 2 months in the area to move around.. I also like Yellowstone Edge 32 miles outside the north entrance and Pondarosa campground in Cody. I think driving out the east entrance of Yellowstone to Cody was one of the best scenic highways I was ever on. In cody you can explore the bear tooth sceneic highway and the Chief Joseph Scenic highway. Be careful of the bears. They are getting hungry this time of year.

While in the Tetons I highly recommend staying in the Gros Venture camp ground. If heading south out if Yellowstone you will turn left just south of the Jackson Airport. There are no hook ups but the do have fresh water and dump station on site. This was the best CG all summer. Have fun and remember the most animals will usually be in the Hayden Valley at dusk and dawn. Safe travels!

We were there for 3 weeks about 15 miles outside of West Yellowstone and we stayed at Valley View RV Park in Island Park Idaho. We had Full Hook ups and Nice folks. We were there over 4th of July and the Owner had a Pot Luck and us Campers brought the Sides and he had the Chicken and Green Beans cooked for everyone. This is a great park and the Camp Hosts are vary nice. The sites are gravel for the RV but they have Grass around and they let you water the grass and also wash your Coach if you want to. We would stay there again.
