Going West to Vegas and more
I have a conference to be at in Vegas mid Sept and then another one two weeks later in Dallas. There is one week in between to sightsee. Initial plan is this:
As quick as possible to Vegas from NE Florida.
I have 7 days from Vegas to be in Dallas.
Would like to visit:
Grand Canyon (South Rim)
Zion and Bryce
Can I fit in more?
No toad. Does this make it difficult to get to the tourist spots or are there shuttles, rentals, etc
Never have traveled out west in RV before. Traveling with DW in Class A 35 Gas.
Thanks in advance for any advise on places to stay and see at the NP's.

From Las Vegas to Dallas is 1200 miles via I-40. You can figure an average of 55mph including fuel, lunch and rest stops so that's 21 hours of driving = 3 days. You have 4 days left and hopefully you won't have any repair issues.
If you wanted to see the three parks on your list: Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce they would all have to be done with one day each. No, don't plan on adding more.
A lot of people will say forget it with only one day each but we feel it's best to skim the parks rather than not seeing them at all. You can always come back for more time at each.
All three of those parks have a shuttle service. I'd suggest you stay on their shuttle service route since you don't have a toad.
For Grand Canyon, stay in the park itself at Trailer Village (full hookups) as first choice. The shuttle also stops just outside the park in Tusayan where there's a RV park.
For Zion stay in the park at Watchman campground (electric) or just outside the park in Springdale where the shuttle stops, also.
For Bryce, you would fit in the park's campground with dry camping. The shuttle also stops at Ruby's RV just outside the park entrance.
Good luck fitting it all in!

We did that in LV a few years ago and rented a car. Stayed on the Strip at Circus and rented a car in the hotel. Missed a lot of things while in transit that we might have stopped to see if we had towed a car.
However, the trip was much faster and less trouble without the towed.

Thanks for the great response twogypsies and doc. My thought is to leave Vegas on Sat the 16 and head to Zion and Bryce for 2.5 days and then head to the Canyon for 2 days and then head to Dallas from the Canyon. Maybe stay in Zion and rent car for trip to Bryce? or skip Bryce. If I had to choose between Bryce and Zion which would you advise and yes we plan on going back to spend more time. Just is convenient to fit in personal time with work.

Renting a car from Zion to tour Bryce would be an option. Zion and Bryce are completely different in looks. Zion is looking up and Bryce looking down. The rock colorings are different, too. For Zion you can pretty much stay on the shuttle for the whole tour and see it - unless you want to get off and do a short hike. For Bryce, you won't really see the canyon by staying on the shuttle. You'd need to get off at a stop for viewing and then catch the next shuttle coming by which isn't a big deal. Doing at least one hike down into the canyon or even half-way down will really give you the feeling like you're entering a fairyland. It is so cool at the bottom and walking in and out of those spires. Bryce is our favorite of the two.

Bryce was our favorite park. Zion is nice but we felt you had to get out and hike it to appreciate it all.

Don't forget Hoover Dam along with your other great sites! They have parking to view dam from up above on the Pat Tillman bridge on the Nevada side. You can also get a closer look(Dam level) by parking in a spot on the Arizona side.

A few years ago I stayed at the Oasis RV resort for a couple of weeks in September attending a conference and a training class in Vegas. Had a pleasant stay.
Also stopped there last year on our way back from South Dakota and it was still nice.

2,100 + Miles from Tallahassee - Need to understand the distance and the drive time (50 mph might stay in a Wal*Mart or two on the way out if cool enough) - Avoid Dallas - ? Possible to drive by the South Rim on the way out? Will save a Day or two and make the return to Dallas Easier with the selections you've made.

....>>>>.... Look at the possibility of Adding;
Page/ Lake Powell/Antelope Canyon
North Rim
Canyon de Chelly
Monument Valley
Carlsbad Caverns

Are bikes a possibility?
Or just a used Toad - http://www.irv2.com/rvclassifieds/sh...006-hhr&cat=22
Sounds like a great excuse for a Road Trip - Schedule looks a little tight, but you can just drive through places you do not have time to Soak Up. That way you will know what you need in the way of time for the next trip.
You will likely be able to get away with no reservations as the Kids are back in school and the crowds are less. Inserted a Cheap/Inexpensive option for a Toad - just a thought as it will make life just a lot more fun for the DW.
Tried to answer the questions raised, you have time to plan so it should be great.
Best of Luck,
...
On Edit - Didn't read the other posts first - but IMHO - it's better to at least "see/drive through" than to miss and never see.
Las Vegas - Might look at the Hilo Ride to the Grand Canyon at sunset - DW loved it - Having visited every dam I can - will say they all have a Great story and are worth the effort to visit.
On trying to "Cram more in" - Yes do it - by the time you get back you will have over 5,000 miles under your belt - I'd Hope to at least SEE A LOT , if I drove that Far/Long/Hard.

As a substitute for Bryce, you may wish to consider Cedar Breaks NP (or NM?). The eroded formations are similar and Cedar Breaks is much closer to Zion.
