Good campground near Gettysburg?

We are thinking about going to the National Apple Harvest Festival in PA early next month. When I went with my foster parents in the '90's we would stay at Drummer Boy and go to Color Fest (in Thurmont) on Saturday and then hit the Apple Festival on the way home on Sunday.

Since it's been over 20 years I don't remember much about Drummer Boy and I'm sure they've changed over the years. Anyone have recent experience there, or can anyone recommend a good place to stay in the area? We've got a 5-year old, and we are probably going to make this a "go out and explore" trip (instead of using the campground as a resort trip), so we're looking for nice level site, reliable service, quiet, etc. (It will be October, so I really don't care about water slides or splash pads.) Non-seasonal entertainment for a kiddo (mini-golf, jumping pillow, playgrounds, etc) is a bonus.

We stayed for a week at Drummer Boy about 5 years ago. Nice park. There are several RV parks around Gettysburg which we explored and decided we liked Drummer Boy the best.

Get your reservations early.

Had a once in a lifetime experience there.

A Prevost parked across from us, towing a Hummer. Two fully dressed butlers washed the rig and car. They then served dinner to the couple who ate outside in the evening.

I almost always talk to fellow campers but was intimidated a bit this time. They stayed two days and left.

While in Gettysburg go to Sunset Ice Cream downtown and get their Peanut Butter Ripple ice cream.

Don't waste your money on the Ghost tours...

Don't know where I'm going, spose I'll get there anyway.

Friends of ours just love Thousand Trails' Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, which is about 20 miles from Gettysburg, but also only 20 miles from Arendtsville, PA, the home of the apple festival. Easy drive, too.

We've never been to the Apple Festival, but we've visited the area the week after several times. It's great. We live about 60 miles away, in Lancaster.

x2 for Gettysburg Campground! We spent a week there a couple of years ago and loved it there. Great people, clean and comfy sites and terrific location. The only thing we should have thought about was the re-enactments they did, our cats were totally freaked out so if you have pets you may want to find out about the schedule and make sure you are home when it is going on.

We just did a week at Artillery Ridge CG. Okay, new pool, poor or nonexistent WIFI. All gravel sites, adequate room (IMHO). Sites ranged from near level to big slope. Overall we had no complaints. Will go again.

We stayed at the Gettysburg KOA two years ago. Very wooded, quiet and peaceful, about 5 miles out of town. We liked it, no cell phone (Verizon), park WiFi was slow and so many trees that satellite didn't have a chance. :-) OK, DW liked it.

We stayed at Gettysburg Campground and went to the Apple festival around 20098 timeframe. The festival was so crowded that people just shuffled around in one big circle. Would never go again just for that reason. Gettysburg Campground was very nice though.
