Good place to stop halfway?

Hi everyone,

I just found this forum and I'm hoping to get some recommendations on where to stop halfway on our trip. We are travelling on July 2 from Sarnia, Ontario Canada going to Myrtle Beach. We are going to only do half the trip on the 2nd and want to know if anybody can recommend a good halfway spot to stop for the night. Also is the 77 the best route??

Thanks so much for any help

Shelley

I did a quick Google map's on it... It appears Charleston, WV is literally the half-way point.. I'm sure there are a couple places to stay, or at least a Walmart or two..

Also.. It appears I-77 is the only way... unless you want to go drastically out of your way

Good Luck

Shelly,

Check to see if they still allow overnight stays at the Beckley/Tamarack Travel Plaza on the West Virginia Turnpike. We have never spent the night there but usually stop there for fuel and a break. They have lots of parking at both the plaza and the Tamarack center. Safe travels.

How big is your rig? We've camped at Wolf Run State Park in Ohio, but a lot of the sites are small and/or uneven.

There are actually not a lot of good, safe, & convenient options along I77 in WV.

We thought about this one, too, but have not camped there yet:

You'll just be looking for an overnight. Charleston is a commercial center. There will be numerous places there a la Walmart, Lowes, HD, Cracker Barrel, Costco, Sam's Club that have been RV friendly in the past. Give them a call and ask them.
Charleston is a good place for you to rest. When you leave in the morning you'll have a couple of hundred miles of mountains to go through. Ought to be a beautiful ride!

I stay there a LOT, it's not only allowed, it's downright encouraged.

But park out the back at the Tamarack Center, not in the travel plaza, it's too noisy.
