Lived outside of Memphis for 7 long years... Would _never_ recommend
anyone staying in the Whitehaven area (South West Memphis). It has a
VERY high crime rate and one can just ask for trouble. I would cross the
state line and go south into Mississippi and camp/rv down there toward
Hernando or Horn Lake areas.

The other option is to RV outside east of Memphis there a few camp
grounds outside in Shelby County areas or just over the county line.

The only thing I can say is be very careful and lock everything up.

We stayed at the Graceland RV park several years ago. The hosts were very frenidly and helpful. Our only complaint was that the Fedex fleet goes airborne in mass at 3 AM, you will not need an alarm clock.

We just spent 4 days a EZ Days. Tom Sawyer and Graceland RV were both full. Great place and a super nice dog run/park. It is close to Graceland you can go the back way down 51 and be right at Graceland. Gotta try Memphis BBQ and of course Beale St. tons of police so very safe, if your into cycle's Wed is Bike night, some unbelievable ones there to look at.

If you are toad-less and only visiting for the Elvis experience, Graceland RV is your best bet. The campground is part of the whole 'Elvis' compound, security is tight and every thing Elvis is within walking distance inside the compound. Only time you leave the compound is then you are on the shuttle bus that takes visitors across the street to Graceland. The staff even arranged for the pink Cadillac limo to take us from our site to a popular BBQ place and back again.

Nothing says 'tourist' like a pink limo.
