Grandfather Mountain Campground

As by my previous post i am planning on taking the kids to the mountains in North Carolina the week after Christmas to attempt to see snow and do a little snow boarding etc.. I have decided on Grandfather Mountain Campground. Any info, experiences, or tips about the campground would be appreciated. Also planning on taking a little jeep to run around in but wondering how easy it is to get to the campground. Will be coming from Florida so basically coming right out of Charlotte. Thanks in advance for the info.

Cant help you a lot as we have not stayed there yet! We had a spot booked last Jan, but that week the temps where in the teens so we decided to skip it. I still have a credit at GFC that we plan to try and use this Feb.

You only have a couple choices up in the area that time of year and from what I have read GFC is the better choice.

If you do make it up, give me a report so I know what to expect.

Have fun..

Slopes are currently closed, warm weather lately. Should be making snow this weekend with the current forecast. Depends on how long it stays cold as to how often they can make it. They all have excellent snow making equipment and only takes couple days of making to get open. Watch weather reports and ski resorts web cams to get info. Grandfather Mtn CG has a row of sites along the stream that are easy access if bad weather and a bunch more up on the hill that are nice if weather permits you to get up there. Have fun, (snow or not, you always have fun camping)
