Great Outdoors RV park - Titusville, FL; or other central FL options

Late this fall we will be heading to Fl for a few weeks,. One of those "seeing family trips" (they are in Tampa), not because we really want to go to Fl.

Considering Great Outdoors in Titusville. We like the idea that it is close enough to Tampa, and on the ocean side of the state, and there are a few interesting things in the area to provide some entertainment (space center for instance). We had seen many of the spaces have casitas where our family could stay, but just found out they are not part of short term rentals.

I know GO has a 10-10-10 Good Sam rating, but it seems to me that it is really geared to longer term sun birds. Just something that looking at it on line makes me question if it is really good for a short term stay.

Any thoughts on Great Outdoors for a short term stay would be appreciated. Interested also how the area around GO as well (hotels for the family, other places to go, etc.)

What about nicer campgrounds around Tampa, St. Pete? Just haven't found any that jump out to us.

It seems that the really nicer RV parks are in the Fort Meyers area, but not overly excited about going that far south, and not sure how that would work out visiting with family. But open to considering.....

Other considerations would be welcome too, with a few things to keep in mind.

4 adults in 50s, and mom almost 90. Looks like they will have to stay in a hotel if we are not near Tampa now.

We are not Disney people, and really have crossed Orlando off our list at this point unless we are missing something there otherwise.

St Augustine, maybe?

Thanks!

Other places around Titusville. Willow Lake Rv Resort in Mims Florida just a short drive from Titusville. If your wanting to visit Tampa you might try Tampa South RV Resort in Ruskin Fl, just south of Tampa or Lazy Days campground in Seffner which is just north of Tampa.
Also check out the State Parks around the area you wish to visit. I have found all the fL SP very nice. Not full hookups but still very worth visiting.

Do I understand that you plan to visit family in Tampa from a base in Titusville? Have you checked the travel time/distance between the two? If you never hit a stoplight and traffic is moving at the posted speed limit, over 2 hours. Neither of those is likely. More likely, traffic will be a nightmare through/around Orlando.

There are a lot of RV parks in the Tampa area, some have been mentioned. If you don't want to base that far south/west "we" are about 45 minutes from Tampa (depending on exactly where in Tampa you are headed) at our winter home park of Deer Creek (intersection of I-4 and highway 27, about 20 miles south of Orlando). In Polk City (farther west on I-4) there is Mt Olive Shores or Bay Lake, a bit closer than we are.

Not trying to discourage you from The Great Outdoors, it's a nice park, but not what most would pick as a base for visiting Tampa.

Understand that Titusville is not "local" to Tampa, but an easy drive and we would find accomidations for them to stay a couple days nearby the rv park (same for Ft Meyers or St Augustine, or other potential spots).

We've spent enough time in Tampa, so looking more for a destination that would provide new things to enjoy for all of us together. But, if there is a nice spot in Tampa, we would consider it.

Thanks

The Lazy Days campground is very convenient and well kept. The pool is nice. The Sun & Fun in Sarasota is well thought of as well.

Westgate River Ranch about 30 minutes outside of Lake Wales. Restaurant, rodeo, pools, general store, fishing, airboat rides. There are also cabins and motel-type rooms for your family. It's not any easy jump onto I-4 to get to Tampa, but is doable. Once you're at River Ranch, you really don't have to leave. It's pretty self contained with things to do or just sit and vegetate.

If you just want to visit the Titusville area, you will not be disappointed with The Great Outdoors. We have over the years stayed there for 2-5 days at a time on 20+ occasions and enjoyed it. Many of the owners there have their properties in the rental pool. The office at TGO handles your reservations. We have always been treated well by both the office and owners in the park. The place is beautiful. You can always take a tour of the space center while in the area. As for driving to Tampa from Titusville on a day trip- forget it. If you are going to drive over and stay in a hotel-no problem. It's not a pleasant drive in my opinion. Of course, if you are going to take the rv over to the Tampa area and stay for a while, also no problem.

Pinellas County, Florida, Park and Conservation Resources - Camping Information

Ft. DeSoto

Nice place ... waterfront sites if you want one .... close to St. Petersburg and Tampa.

About $45/night with the various taxes.

Love Ft Desoto. No sewer. Not sure if they have 50 Amp or not. Going there in a couple of weeks. Can be tough to get a reservation because it's so popular.

Thanks of all the ideas for us to look into! Greatly appreciated.

I think we may be changing the routing of our trip now. The first leg is going to be Hilton Head for a week or so, then head to FL. Instead of staying one place for in FL a couple weeks, make a few stops and work in the visits with the family along the way.

I quickly looked at Westgate River, and that is certainly very different and interesting. Also glanced at Carefree in Sarasota, and that looks possible given they have options for our family to stay as well (and it really is close enough for family day trips), we like the Sarasota area, and would like to see one of thier resorts too.

Will be looking at all the others too, and see what we can put together.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

I lived in LA for 11 years, and my brother in Tampa drives to Miami for one day business trips. Tampa to Titusville is "just around the block!. In any case, yes, they would drive over and stay for a few days.... Wouldn't make it a day trip!
