GREAT Ozark Music Venue, Mtn. View,AR

G'morning ALL:

Well, if you've ever watched the movie "Paint Your Wagon," and recall the scene where all the gold miners are hunkered in their damp tents, sheds, cabins, etc. waiting out a long downpour, (while singing Myrhia), THAT'S the scene here at the Ozark RV Park in ol Mountain View, Arkansas, this morning. Big weather front has been rollin through for a couple days (see Weather Channel) and is complete w. tornado watches, flash flood warnings in the gulleys, and CONTINUOUS RAIN, and more RAIN!!!...and...misty mountain fog. Actually, it's REALLY cozy and enjoyable!!!!

Spose alot of you already know about visiting Mtn. View, but for those that don't, thought I'd try to describe it a little because it's a WONDERFUL place to spend a little time, ...particularly if ya might enjoy listening to or joining in a playing mountain music!!

We'd never ventured into the interior areas of the Ozarks probably cause we were a little concerned about navigating the narrow, up/down, curvy secondary routes into the area with our long MH, BUT....we now know it's sure NOT a hurdle to worry about. There are a number of RV campgrounds which easily accomodate all rigs (big too) in and around (within walking dist.) to most everything.

Mtn. View is a quiet little town, where ya can enjoy listening to, or joining in the playing of music almost everywhere...(ie., restaurants, pickin sheds, porches, parks, etc.), or walk up to the Ozark Folk Center for evening performances and/or visit the Craft Village for even more music. Gotta tell ya....some of the music will blow your socks off!!! Where ever they're playing, if ya want to join in, they make ya feel like yer one of the family, just sit down and melt in. (Guitars, autoharps, mtn. dulcimers, hammered dulcimers, mandolins, banjos, harmonicas, etc. etc.). They do however tend to dissuade any electric/plug in type instruments as it's all mostly an acoustic venue, although amplified mics (microphone)/speakers are occasionally used.

Sittin in Mtn. View, enjoying the folks, the food, and the music, and doing day touring outta here is absolutely GREAT!! Ya GOTTA try it if ya haven't. Steve & Lynette

WOW! how I envy you'll. We stayed several days at Mountain Home Ark several years ago at the Corp park and enjoyed it very much. After we got home several friends told us about Mountain View. I am a BIG Blue Grass fan although I cant play any of the instruments or sing (can't remember the words, besides the DW would pull me by the ears if I tried to sing). Mountian View is one of my MECAs. Hopefully one day we can get back there.

Brickyard RV Park and Golf Resort in Americus Ga, which is close by, has a gathering once a year with lots of Blue Grass pickers camping for the weekend which we enjoyed one year. Missed it this year because of illness. OH well. one day we will get back on the road and start enjoying some good music again. s/Toby
