Planning a trip with our 27' camper from Iowa south by way of New Orleans (maybe Mardi Gras) then east to Orlando. Since we leave mid-February, unsure of dates due to unpredictable weather. We do have reservation at WDW Fort Wilderness beginning March 13. Looking for ideas on campgrounds without reservations between here and there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you get off the interstate, here's a nice little park right on the gulf. We stumbled upon this a few years ago and it has some sites sites right by the water. They don't have a website, but are listed in the Good Sam camping directory. 273 miles to Orlando.

We really like Ho-Hum too. But don't expect much, especially if you have children. There is nothing there for kids.

HMMM...maybe that is why we liked it so much?

You are correct, this is not really a touristy place. Also...after thinking about the OP's info request it might still need some advanced reservations to ensure a spot is available.

Still...soooo many good oyster bars in Apalachicola. MMMMM

St. George Island is a nice place to visit too.
