Heading that way and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations, or some recent experiences. Planning to stay a few weeks.

We like Ft Pickens campground @ Gulf Islands NSS west of Pensacola Beach,FL. Also, if you want to go east a few miles there is Henderson Beach SP in Destin and Topsail SP @ Santa Rosa. You can camp @ Ft Pickens for half price if you have a Seniors Pass for the NPS. All of these parks border on the Gulf and have very short walking distances to the water. Enjoy!!!

Ft Pickens is nice, but really out of the way from shopping, food, gas etc. It's located on Pensacola Beach which is an island off the mainland accessible by toll bridge. Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores is really nice and located close to shopping, food, gas and night attractions. There is also a very nice place in Orange Beach called Bella Terra. It's sort of pricey and very high end but really well located. Emerald Beach is a nice park about 20 miles east of Pensacola on Santa Rosa Bay. It's sort of half way between Pensacola and Destin. We live in Daphne, Al and have stayed at all of the above several times on our short weekend trips. The dogs love the beaches and we like the downtime from work. The Seafood is incredible, try the Fish House in Pensacola, and the Shrimp Basket in Gulf Shores.

Texun1,
The reason that we don't stay @ Gulf SP is because we have a dog. The campground is adjacent to a lake that contains alligators. If you decide to stay there, please be careful with your pets.
Good Luck, Indiana Journey

Guls Shores is a very nice choice. Great restruants, golf courses, bautiful beaches, shopping etc. Gulf State Campground is very nice and very reasonable. Enjoy your stay!

We are going there in February. We have reservations at Johnny's RV Resort in Foley, AL. It's a 15 minute drive to Gulf Shores. Used to be called Palm Lake RV but is under new ownership. Try this email address: www.palmlakerv.com. I tried to find something in Gulf Shores but they cater mostly to long term (3 months or more) and prices were much higher. Hope this helps.

We stayed there 20 to 30 times and have a dog. We have never had a problem with alligators. We have lived in the area since the park opened in the early 70's. I don't know of any indicidents with the alligators. There are over 400 spots there and only a few are close to or facing the water.
