Gulf Coast Suggestions
We will be heading back east toward home (VA) in about a week and think we might want to spend a few days on the Gulf coast. Without getting too far off our main travel route of I-10, looks like our options are around Corpus Christie, Biloxi, or FL panhandle near Pensacola/Navarre.
Looking for any suggestions as the better of those options.

Get off of the interstate and drive US 98 and 90 along the coast.

Yep get off on Hwy 90 in Mississippi, get back on I-10 before you get to Alabama.
Just on the other side of Pensacola take the Garcon Point exit down to Hwy 98. (This is a toll bridge).
You can either take 331 back to I-10 just past Destin or continue on to Panama City.
Hwy 30-A in Santa Rosa Beach is a great scenic detour.

Here are a few suggestions for the Louisiana gulf coast and beyond. If you have no children(they would be board), spend a night or 2 at Betty's RV park in Abbeville, La..The physical accommodations are not much but the atmosphere makes up for it. Visit Tabasco on Avery Island. Lots of culture around Abbeville. French Quarter RV resort in New Orleans is a great location if you want to spend some time in the city. Its walking distance to all the nightlife in the Quarter. If you gamble, stop at Hollywood casino in Bay St. Louis, MS. have a Sandwich at Ricky's Off the Tracks. Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL is a great RV Park. Don't pass up the US Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, Fl. You could spend a day there. If you are military, they have an RV park at the base. Have Fun!!
Oops. Forgot. If you go to New Orleans, go to the WWII Museum.

smlranger-
We enjoyed our stay at Fort Pickens campground, near Pensacola. We struggled to reserve using the recreation.gov Web site, and elected just to go directly to the park. With the U.S. senior pass discount of 50% the price per night drops to $13- pretty cheap!
The campground is across the bay from the Pensacola Naval Air Station (I think it's about a half-hour drive to the nearest gate). We spent a day at the National Naval Aviation Museum (same place Scott recommended), but could have spent two there.

X2 on Betty's RV in Abbeville, LA She's the most gracious hostess, a lot of laughs and a good Cajun cook. Cajun music is readily available and those in her campground become one happy family. It's a hoot!

Thanks for the suggestions.
We stopped in PCola on the way out west and visited the Naval Air Museum. It was great. We did not try any RV parks on the gulf then because it was windy and cold and we were looking for warmer weather. Didn't really find warm until we got to San Antonio.
We may try Navarre if we can get an RV spot for a few days.

If going to the Emerald Coast of Florida, Destin West RV Resort is very nice. Several threads on here about it. Biloxi is also a nice place to stop and closer to get on/off Interstate 10. Might also want to stay right off the causeway on Mobile bay at Meaher State Park. Can see the battleship and great restaurants on the causeway.

Destin West is the best and check out Cajun Palms near Baton Rouge. Casino Coushatta is a great stop if your headed to Texas.

If you don't have kids, here's a little gem we happened upon a few years back Ho Hum RV Park offers a quiet enviroment in a No Children Park.

If you are traveling on I-10 you can cut south at Columbus, TX and go through Lake Jackson to the western end of Galveston Island (across a $2 Toll bridge over San Luis Pass). All Roads are well navigable in a 39' motorhome towing a 20' Trailer.
Then you are striking distance of Houston and you avoid a lot of the Houston traffic. I have never done it, but I think you can continue on through Galveston and take a ferry to the Bolivar peninsula and miss Houston all together.
We are at Galveston Island State Park right now, but also recommend Galveston Island RV Resort which is on the western end of the island. They are one of those "luxury resorts" with swimming pool and hot tub, but they have excellent pads and utilities. They are a short walk across the road to the beach.
If you want to get closer to the beach, the Galveston Island State Park has beach sites, but they tend to fill up.

There is a nice campground in Bay St Louis at the Hollywood Casino and it is reasonably priced. There are several RV parks along US 90 in MS but to me, they look really cramped and just gravel parking lots. If you are eligible for a military campground, there are campgrounds at Keesler AFB and NCBC Gulfport. Lots of casinos on the MS Gulf Coast if that is your thing but the drive on US 90 is wonderful.

Do any of you have some suggestions for camping with kids on the Gulf coast? We will be in a MH with no toad so any activities will need to be within walking/golf cart distance.
