Halloween Campouts the entire month of October?

DW has a short fall break this year the third week of October. We'd been considering for some time on taking a run to Gettysburg to visit the battle sites. It's a place I've passed many times but never had time to stop and visit. Once we'd finalized our plans, I realized I've run up against Halloween Festivities in every campground in the Gettysburg area. They are completely booked.

I did manage to find ONE site available at Round Top. It doesn't have the best ratings, but we're there to visit the sites, not camp. I guess I'm amazed, the economy being what it is, that campgrounds do not really seem to be affected. We camped a few weekends ago at Lake Rudolph in Santa Claus, IN. They have Halloween themed weekends both the entire month of September AND October. I've already booked my 2013 weekend.

When I travel, I like to avoid having to make reservations, but that's riskier and riskier lately. You can't just roll into a town and expect to find a site. For Gettysburg, for a while it looked like we'd end up in Carlisle or farther and even then campsites were few and far between.

Great marketing tool for the RV Parks. A little extra effort on their part and now they book the park for an extra four weekends.

We are headed to a Halloween weekend at the Jellystone in Hagerstown, MD this weekend. You need to book in August and pay upfront for the weekend at the time of booking. All four weekends are sold out...

Enjoy Gettysburg, we live about 45 minutes North in Mechanicsburg.

We usually go to Lake Rudolph in Santa Claus, Indiana for Halloween weekends. You have to book those over a year in advance.
