Handgun
My wife and I like to carry our handguns for protection on the road. We want to travel to Yosemite, but understand that CA is most unfriendly to gun owners.
Is there camping close enough in Nevada for us to leave the RV (and handguns) there and drive the toad into Yosemite?

I don't know the laws in CA, but if it were me, I'd keep them unloaded in a locked box in a basement compartment in the RV. They're safe and there is no reason for anyone to know that they are there.

The answer to your question depends upon how far you are willing to drive and if you are planning to stay in one of the hotels once there. Yosemite is a very big park. It's well over an hour and a half to the village from the east entrance which is well inside California. My GPS shows 2 hours just to get to the park boundaries from the closest place in Nevada. So say 4 hours just to get there. You wouldn't be able to see/do much in the time you would have on a day trip commuting to/from Nevada.
We would follow the advice of previous posters and stow your guns legally and stay in the park. It's magnificent and shouldn't be missed.

If I owned a gun and wanted to keep it in my RV this is the exact attitude that I would have. It amazes me that people get on the Internet and announce they are "packing".

Don't know why you think Calif is unfriendly to gun owners. It is a hunters paradise in some areas. Lots of rural area where deer, squirrel, bear, rabbits, pheasants etc. No open carry law and they are restrictive on gun permits but they are still available in some places. That said, Yosemite is a Federal park and those rules apply. Keep them out or reach and unloaded if driving a toad and if driving an rv keep them well away from the driver area. No one will ask if you are packing.

That is the law I read a few months ago for Ca. Unloaded, in a box, in a basement compartment.

Well it also depends on the gun. In CA my guns aren't allowed in the state . I can have them locked up away from the driver area for "safe Passage" thru the state. Not sopposed to "go" to CA with them all.

When I first joined this site, I was warned that nothing get s thread shut down faster than discussing guns. Use the search feature to see previous discussions on this. You'll see that they were mostly closed by the moderator.
Second to guns is gas vs. diesel
