It was a bittersweet weekend. Absolutely perfect camping weather, great state park and lots of friends but, sadly, my last trip before winterizing until next year.

Every October I put together a gathering of 20 to 30 people. We rent one of the picnic pavilions and most just come for the Saturday afternoon/evening cookout. But there is always a hearty part of the group that reserve a site and pitch a tent for the weekend. Temperatures dipped into the thirties, we just put more wood on the fire.

The fun part is we get to introduce at least a couple of new people each year to camping. This year there were a couple of couples that were talking about looking for a pop-up after they got home. They're hooked!

The best part is watching all the kids. There were about a dozen this year. They started out not knowing each other in the early afternoon and were best friends by sunset. This year the ages ranged from 5 to 13.
