I posted a question about vacation ideas last year and we were advised to go to Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota and had a wonderful time. Thanks to all those who helped. I am looking for ideas from the veterans again. We live in Chicago area and are wide open to ideas about places to go and things to see. We now have a 1.5 year old (last year at 6 months he traveled fine-don't know how it will go this year but we are going to try) so we will be doing a lot of windshield sightseeing. We can get out in a stroller or carry him but no real adventurous outings. We are looking to go in July for up to three weeks. We have a 40 foot dp with toad. I am looking for nice scenery- doesn't really matter what type. Thanks for your help. Bryan

Maine. The real Maine!

This means yes do see Bar Harbor, Acadia NP and such, but the real Maine begins after Bar Harbor.
After BH, every road to the right leads to the shore or a cove. You will find villages with restaurants that have better and cheaper food than the tourist spots.
In mid August the wild blueberries are full, and 10 to 13 a quart in BH, but as little as $3 a quart in Whiting and other towns further along. And the lobster is much cheaper farther "Downeast" also.
And the farther you go, the more down-home it gets. Eastport is awesome.

I'd second CampDaven's recommendation for Maine. Or, if you turn west instead of east, the Oregon coast is spectacular at this time of year.

On your way to Maine stop at Letchworth State Park in NY, just south of Rochester. The falls are magnificent and the 100 ft plus gorges are quite beautiful. All. Of the views are easly reachable even with a stroller. If you dont mind carrying him up and down about a 130 steps you can get down next thefalls them selves.The park was built by the CCC and the stonewalls and stairs will probably never be repeated in the foreseeable future.
We stayed there is a 36ft MH. They have 50 amp service but no water or sewer at the individual sites. They have several water fill sites and a three lane dump station.

If you want to go International, consider Banff in the west or if you want to check out Maine, carry on up to New Brunswick or Nova Scotia. If you really want to travel, take the Ferry over to Newfoundland and check out the two UNESCO attractions of Gros Morne and L'Anse aux Meadows.

Sounds like you did the lower half. Now how about the upper part? Montana, Washington, Oregon. Yellowstone, Glacier, Cascades, Puget Sound, Olympic Nat'l Park, Oregon Coast and return.

Thank you all for the replies. We like the idea of going to Maine. I am going to look at routes from Chicago (go Hawks!). Any other suggestions to stop at along the way and other places to go once there? Thanks again. Bryan

Another idea is to take a circle trip around Lake Michigan and hit the beaches. A 1-1/2 yr. old would love sand in his toes! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore just west of Traverse City, Michigan is awesome. The area is gorgeous with many small towns to poke around. Have a good one wherever you go!
