Have you stayed Maverick Ranch RV and Golf Resort in Lajitas, TX?

On paper, the Maverick Ranch RV/Golf Resort in Lajitas (Between the State and National parks in Big Bend) looks nice. We have a 37 foot class A. Anyone with recent experience at this campground? Couldn’t book a sport at the desired “in park” campground this go around.

Why not stay in Big Bend NP itself if that's why you're going down there? It's a lot more pleasant and more opportunities for hiking.

We stayed at Maverick Ranch for almost a month in February in our 37 foot coach. We enjoyed the park. The staff was friendly, it was clean and well maintained. It’s a bit of a drive to the National Park (about 35 miles or so to Panther Junction if I recall correctly) but you’re right on the doorstep of the State Park.
We will be returning to that area this January and are staying at Maverick Ranch again.

We would love to stay in Big Bend NP twogypsies. We always prefer to stay “In Park”.

I am not one to book months in advance. We generally wing it, and have good success doing so. Much like you two gypsies.

Given its remoteness, I called both the NP campground (I don’t need the hookups) and the Third Party managed campground folks and was of the impression that this week in particular, I am out of luck. If we arrive in the area and find an open first come first serve site at the NP, we can just move over.

BTW, thanks for all of the invaluable experience that you share with forum members.

Thank you Buckeyefan4. I was wondering about the road heading down. I saw a segment with 11 percent downgrade. That you are heading back says that it isn’t a problem.

We drove to Lajitas from Alpine. There are some curves in the road just out of Alpine but these should be no issue at all. There are a few uphill/downhill sections but there are no long grades to be concerned with. It’s actually a nice drive.

We visited Maverick Ranch, but didn't stay there. We stayed at the motel/campground (forgot the name!) in Study Butte. It is just a couple of miles north of the Maverick Junction entrance.

Incdentally, when we visited BBNP in January, self-contained RVs could get permits to boondock along the gravel road that goes south from Maverick Junction to Santa Elena Canyon. Recommend doing it nearer the junction as there is some fairly rough road further south.

Grand Adventure on Youtube stayed in Maverick Resort in this video and gives you a pretty good rundown and pics of the place, in addition to visiting the parks nearby.
