Headin' to Austin, need info on RV parks

Three friends and I are taking an old guys road trip to the WVU -Texas football game on October 6th. Any recommendations on a good RV park (40 foot Class A) near Longhorn stadium? Also how about the Galveston or South Padre shore areas for a couple days before we head back over to Lubbock and the Texas Tech game the following Saturday?

There are a couple of large parks on 35 south just on the other side of the river from the stadium, I passed them today when I was visiting Austin. I'd use the "Allstays" web site and check the reviews to see what might work, you can also use that site to check out so padre and Galveston. On Padre, you could dry camp in places as well...right on the beach.

Good luck.

We usually stay at McKinney Falls State Park when visiting Austin. It's about 9 miles south of Memorial stadium.

We have stayed at Austin Lone Star RV Park, which would also meet your needs.

When doing your planning, be sure to differentiate between Padre Island and South Padre.

Padre Island National Seashore is near Corpus Christi. You can boondock on the beach there (in the national seashore or up by Port Aransas), although with a 40-foot motorhome you would have to be careful not to get stuck. Also, early October may be pushing it if you want to boondock--it might still be too sticky to sleep comfortably without air conditioning. There are RV parks in Port A, though, and Mustang Island SP and Padre Balli County Park across from Corpus have electricity, although both are just parking lots.

South Padre Island is across from Brownsville, on the southern tip of Texas. It's 400 miles from Austin, and 700 miles from Lubbock.
