Heading MI next week

Looking for any/all recommendations for place to visit and campgrounds. Our plan is to head north up I-75 through Detroit/Flint areas, then slow down and explore. Plan to cross into the UP and take the DW to Paradise.

Thoughts appreciated.

If you have never done Frankenmuth, MI. It's good place to start. Check out Pine Ridge RV park. Their site has a list of attractions in the area.

St. Ignace has a nice state park campground, and we love Bay Furnace in Pictured Rocks. There's also a casino close to Bay Furnace with power plugs, in case you just want to camp or entertain yourselves quickly.

If you enjoy good pies or bakery, I think that Grand Traverse Pie Co. is one of the best commercial bakeries in the U.S. They have several locations in MI.

HTH!

We live just north of Detroit...If you are looking to do something around Metro Detroit you should check out Groveland Oaks or Addison Oaks. Both are Oakland County Parks, nice and well kept about 30 minutes north of Detroit. Frankenmuth is a good stop but Pine Ridge wasn't so nice a few years back when we stayed there. The Jellystone Park right in town is very convenient and nice but small sites and no open fire pits.

Along Lake Huron the Tawas State Park is IMHO one of the nicest state parks in the system. St.Ignace Park Park is also very nice and you can get a site with a view of the Mighty Mac. Of course a visit to Mackinaw Island is a must.

So many great places along the Great Lakes to visit....enjoy your trip
Jeff

You will love Paradise if you have never been there. Be sure to check out Tequamenon Falls State park. The falls are spectacular. There is a nice micro brewery/resturant in the park as well. Good beer, good food. There is also the ship wreck museum at White Fish Point that we enjoyed very much. The is a nice campground on the way from Paradise to the falls on a small lake that looks nice but we didn't have our RV last time up there and I don't remember the name. Mackinac Island is worth a day trip from either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping in Mackinaw City, MI East of town on U.S. 23. Has some sites across a campground road from the waters edge. Very nice, with a view of the bridge. Not full hookups at the area, but electric & water.

the sites on the ends of roads numbered 1-9 have full hook ups and a nice unobstructed view of the lake and bridge.

Grand Marais (Woodland Park Campground)

Use that as a base camp to explore pictured rocks from shore. Just drive west on 28 from there and find the points of interest like log slide, chapel falls and other places to explore the shoreline.

if you got money to burn go to munising and take the overpriced pictured rocks boat ride or the glass bottom shipwreck tour.

Grand island is neat. the bus tour of that is worth it if you ask me.

bay furnace camground in munising if full everyday and empty sites get filled by noon even on weekdays. County camground there is the same.

Four or so campgrounds south of munising on 13. Petes lake is the best but also tends to fill up, widewaters has open spots most days except weekends right now. All are no hookup campgrounds except the county one and the one in grand marais.

Soo locks was interesting, oswald bear ranch is ok, 20 bucks a carload, overweight black bears.

munising is a neat little town to look around for a day or so, marquette is interesting.

Source?.............camphosting in that area this summer.
