Never been to that area before in amotorhome will in a 37 footer with toad, do you know if there are any restrictions on ferry use in the area..

Don't know what the restrictions are, but we've seen 40-footers with toads cross on the ferry. True confession: We chickened out and took the long road on our first visit to PA in January. After seeing how the ferry works, we'll definitely use it next time. The operators are very helpful and will give you two lanes to yourself. You won't have any problems. Enjoy the area!

We've used the P.A. ferry several times with a 38 and toad. They have always asked me how much it weighs.

The Bolivar ferry is another story. They pack you on there like sardines w/o the oil.

ON edit: Take lots and lots of mosquito repellent.

If you don't want to take the ferry, you can get on the island by going thru Corpus. We found the ferry ride interesting (did it a couple of times) but that was in the jeep. We watched a ferry carry a big motor home a few times. We decided we really didn't want to be on the ferry at the same time. The people responsible for loading the vehicles on are good at stacking everyone on there. I have noticed they run far fewer vehicles with a big coach than normal. We saw them load 2 big 40 ft RVs with toads (one was a pickup truck) and nothing else. But that was about all that would fit on the ferry.

BTW, Elkhart Jim is right... the mosquitoes are getting bad. We're on Flour Bluff and we are getting eaten up.

We have stayed at Port Aransas three times. Never in an RV - always in a beach house and always in the winter or early spring. We love it there. Food is great - go to the cajun rest. or get fresh shrimp and boil them yourself. There are a number of outlets for fresh seafood available. There are a couple of local music jams about the area if that interests you. Corpus is a great place to visit with lots to do and its not very expensive. There is a hugh fishing dock ran by the city on the east end of the island near the ferry. It also has a bunch of picnic tables there as well. Go to the city center and ask about local events.

Been across PA ferry many times in Discovery 38' DP. No problem whatsoever with toad. They will give you all the room you need, like Jim said. Sometimes make you stop gen other times ok to run on 5 min ride. You can go around south way thru CC but would be a long way out of the way for you. Maybe long line for ferry, signboard on road from Aransas Pass to PA ferry gives wait times so you can take alternate route. Used to live in PA long ago. We always go to Mcgee/Nueces County Park RV CG on the beach near jetties. There is a section with water and elec with dump station back from beach and an area directly on beach with dump and fill for $12 a night. Have young kids so this is fav spot, can park 30' from water. You can get onto beach with mh at jetty end and into park area but I don't go any further down south on beach past pier due to soft sand. Was just there last wkend and there is some seaweed on beach, no oil , but beach should be cleaned for this wkend. Sounds like you have been there before, maybe see you there.

First trip for us, Going to try to camp on beach also, the Reservations are actually backup plan if we can't get spot on beach.

Don, if you come off ferry and go straight you will end up on beach by jetties, then is hard packed all the way to Nueces co park HQ big fancy building to the right.
You CAN camp for free on beach between jetties and co park, area enclosed by pilings, for three nights, no water or anything. We usually go for co park beach area because no thru beach traffic. And there is 10pm noise curfew, usually pretty quiet area. Have not been past pier in RV, but have seen class As down past pier before but there tend to be soft spots the further south you go. Like I said the co park has always been fun, $12 and you can wake up looking out at the water. Hard to beat that.

Thanks for the pointers, actually on 59 heading that way tonight. So will be getting in late tonight so will more than likely park it on the beach.

Watch for loose sand. $725 minimum tow charge according to a friend that knows.

We enjoyed our stay while in Port Aransas a few years ago and the ferry ride was great with no problems. We stayed at the county campground and had a water electric site with dump station nearby.

I didn't take RV out to the beach due to the salt air and mist as I didn't want to drive a rust bucket. I did go out on the beach with our toad and afterward went into town to get the underside of the car washed for $.50. It was neat and I did it after everytime I drove on the beach. The fishing is also good there.
