Heading to Sonoma, CA

Heading to Sonoma, CA for a wedding next April from Alberta, Canada next year. Plan on taking 2weeks and taking our 5ver with out 2 Daughters. Wondering if there are any neat sites or camping recommendations for along the way or any great campgrounds near Sonoma we should know about. Full service or boondock makes no difference to us. Thanks for any info.

We stayed at the fairgrounds in Santa Rosa CA a few weeks ago, basic camping - full hookups, no cable or WIFI. It's about 45 minutes to Sonoma. Also stayed at the Napa Expo campgrounds, it's in Napa Valley but about the same distance to Sonoma. I preferred Napa.

Some good things to see in the area - Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods - Giant Redwoods (don't try it on a weekend). San Francisco is within an hour or so depending on traffic. Golden Gate, Alcatraz, etc. Of course a LOT of great wineries in the area. Let me know if you need suggestions.

Petaluma KOA looked nice. We only looked; didn't stay.

Have stayed at Petaluma KOA a couple times, would do it again. Can take shuttle bus or ferry to San Francisco. Point Reyes, Petaluma, and other sites close-bye.

Have also stayed at Bothe - Napa Valley State Park, near Calistoga, California. Nice state park - be prepared for poison oak and dry-camping. Fairgrounds in Calistoga has a basic RV park and very reasonable.

Napa Valley Expo Park in Napa has received very good reviews.

Thanks for the great reviews and ideas everyone. I did do an Internet search for areas and your feedback is confirming some things I've read. Getting excited for this trip already.
