Hi All, we are heading to Tucson for the month of January, we are thinking about spending. A month in southern New Mexico.anyone have any suggestions on where would be a good place?
We have never been out west before.

Good Sam is real good at showing RV parks. They've got a list view and a map view so you can see where the park is. We also like RV Park Reviews to see how the various parks stack up against each other.

One of our favorite parks is north of Tucson - Catalina State Park. Book early, it fills up fast.

I'd suggest you re-think New Mexico in the winter. It can be cold and windy - even the far southern part. We were going to spend a winter in the Land of Enchantment but realized after two weeks it was too cold. March - November would be o.k.

Move around in Arizona to a few places. They are all so different in looks, temperature and things to do. Tucson is an excellent choice and the Voyager RV would have any kind of activity you would want.

Up in the greater Phoenix area, try out some of the fabulous Maricopa County park campgrounds. Unfortunately, reservations in winter are now required. Some of our favorites are McDowell Mountain, Usery.

Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction is a big winner. They have all kinds of sites - even full hookup. Again, you'll need reservations. The area is gorgeous in Feb/March with the flowers. Excellent hiking and nearby are fishing lakes. We volunteered there so we're partial.

Any of Arizona's state parks are great but only 2 weeks time allowed.

Don't try for above Phoenix and over to the Colorado River and up to Lake Havasu. Higher up on the map will be too cold in winter.

We have stayed at the Voyager rv resort for several winters and will return again in December. It has every activity known to man that can participate or not, as you wish. Pools, pickleball, golf, quilting, political discussions, jewelry making, etc, etc. Or you can do activities all over town, museums, Pima air & space museum, desert walks, Mt Lemmon. Good shopping.

Phoenix is a good place to visit, just has bad traffic like Los Angeles that starts at 2:30.

I live in Southern NM and am not a fan of most of the private camp grounds. Too much like large parking lots. We have a great state park system; yes, also a two week limit. But there are several parks that are well worth spending time at. We also have a great state park website New Mexico State Parks
