Help finding Iowa campground along Mississippi.

I'm hoping to find a nice campground along the Mississippi River for this upcoming Memorial week. Was hopping to get some suggestions as I'm not having much luck with my research. The Illinois side would work fine too but logically we need to keep it close to Iowa.

Thanks,

Robby

there are corps of engineer campgrounds on Il. side at Davenport, and up towards Savanna at Thompsons. Also along Iowa side. Better reserve now, holiday week end, at C O E or any private campground, will be soon filled..

If you don't mind coming over to the Wisconsin side.. You could check out Wyalusing State Park...

Wyalusing State Park - Wisconsin DNR

We went there for the first time last year... it's now one of our favorites..

Also, I believe there is Pikes Peak on the Iowa side..

I, too, would recommend checking the Corps of Engineers parks. They are nice parks.

Thank you all, those are nice parks. Decisions decisions, I think I'll try Pikes Peek, if I'm not to late.

Pikes Peak is nice. Wisconsin river connects to Mississippi, can be viewed from "lock-out".. Campground does not have water at sites, so fill before going to site. Go up to La Crescent, apple capital, nice store... Cross over to La Crosse, tour brewery, go down to DeSoto, Wi. check out Blackhawk C O E,..Cross over Mississippi [ neat bridge] at Lansing, unique hardware store, and back up to Pikes Peak. Nice day trip. Views of river at pull=outs on both sides... Bring camera and binoculars.

Sabula, Iowa. Highway 52 and 64 cross over the river there with Savanna , Illinois on the other side. Sabula is about 60 miles north of Davenport.

South Sabula Lakes Park, (Jackson County Park)
Sabula, Iowa
Phone: (563) 687-2420

I have driven through it and recall that if we were ever in the vicinity we would stay there. Water all around. See the barges navigate the river. I love the rumble. RV Park Reviews has three good reviews.

Post back if you try it. Better yet put a review here at iRV2 campgrounds.

Dubuque Iowa has Miller Park right on the river but is usually flooded in the spring.

Well.. seeing as you've been given a ton of great advice.. I thought I would pass on some suggestions on things to do while in the area..

An absolute must is to visit a little town called Potosi.. they have a great little micro brewery that is worth a visit (we can't wait to go back)... another must is Prairie du Chien.. neat little town, great farmers market..

Finally, I don't think any visit would be complete to that area without taking a ride on the Cassville Ferry.. very cool way to get across the mighty Mississippi..
