I think the title of the thread is confusing. There are no VETERANS campgrounds, but there are MILITARY campgrounds, that cater to active duty, retired, guard and reserve. Merely being a veteran does not grant access to these parks. But as Wayne noted, if the man is that banged up from military service, he is entitled to a 100 percent service connected disability rating, and with that he would be allowed access to the military FAMCAMP system, as well as base MWR, commissary, and exchange privileges. He should get with a veteran's advocacy group such as the DAV, American Legion, or VFW and get his situation evaluated.

Thank you for the clarification, Ray. I'll be seeing them this coming week, and I'm going to bring up the subject when I do. Having lived with my Dad, who had a service-related disability, I believe that they should re-evaluate their circumstances, too. My Dad was not nearly as disabled, but I believe he deserved every penny he got.

A military ID card is required or a sponser. Just having been a member of any branch of the military----and not retired----doesn't work

my reply is on escapees.com too. A very few military CG's are open to the public. You will find most of them on militarycampgrounds.us. Ft. McCoy, WI and one off-post Ft. Campbell (it has two)CG that I know about.

I find staying in FAMCAMPS (the Air Force term for military MWR campgrounds) to be an enjoyable experience. Nearly all are "inside the fence" so security is good. Most are close to military facilities such as hospitals, exchanges, and commissaries. And best of all, you have a lot in common with your neighbors. It makes for interesting campfire conversation!
