Henry Ford , Greenfield Village
Thinking about taking an rv trip to the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit . Does anyone have any experience with rv parks in the area that are reasonably close ?
This would be a mid September trip .

Wayne County Fairgrounds - in Belleville is where we stay. It’s not very fancy but adequate. Walmart right next door (walking distance), Campers World about a mile away. Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village is about a 20 mile drive on I94. There is what used to be a KOA near the fairgrounds also, I think it’s called Detroit Greenfield RV Park now - it’s in Ypsilanti...never stayed there though.

Agree, we use this every year or so and there are restaurants within walking distance. However, there may be old-time county fair activities so check the calendar.

The old Greenfield KOA (now I think just called Greenfield or Detroit-Greenfield) which is actually in, as I recall Romulus, or Ypsilanti, is about the nearest. i've had to track down RVers in the past who were visiting The Edison Institute, and that's where I found 'em. (A job that was beyond the other police dispatchers I worked with by the way. I had the campground list don't you know).
I stayed there for a week last spring.. not a bad place. Forget the cost
When you visit the village (Some history) there isa doctor's office, originally built as a one-room school house teh lower half is brick for warmth in the winter and so on, and the upper half wood, thats how they built 'em back then.. all sided with wood as zI recall.
The original site of that ofice was on what is now Jackson Road, just off M-60 in Tekonsha, MI.. The bus I road to school went right past it.

Since you’ve decided to stay at Wayne County FG while visiting (wise choice), I want you to be aware the FG is 5 minutes from Willow Run Airport (another Ford creation), and the Yankee Air Museum. Many historians consider Willow Run as the linchpin in FDR’s “Arsenal of Democracy”, and worth a couple of hours of your time.

Not many people know about Chelsea! One of Michigan's great small towns, they have excellent Festival, antique flea markets excetera.
Also, if you have time to get to the U.P. definitely take time to just kick back and relax the one recommendation about going up to Whitefish Point to see the Shipwreck Museum that's a winner! It's right on your way to, nowhere! But if you get up there, head over to see Tahquamenon Falls it's worth the trip. Plus there is a microbrewery there that was built by the family who owned all the property (including the Taquamenon Falls) before they turned it over to the State Of Michigan... Reserving only enough property to build the brewery. When you're in Michigan's Upper Peninsula you're in God's country you will see many bumper stickers saying that 906 is God's area code!

I see lots of automotive tours in your itinerary so, if time permits, I suggest the Gilmore Museum near Kalamazoo. A great big place with stand-alone Cadillac and Lincoln replica dealerships. They also allow "primitive" RV camping (15/20A) for $20. https://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/
Then, on your way to the straits, stop at the Leggs Inn http://legsinn.com/
