We like very much a hidden gem: Daisy State Park - not far from Hot Springs. And if you like Verizon it has 5 bars 4G !! Pretty park but wish it has some FHU. It has has water and electric but no FHU. Another State Park nearby is Lake Ouachita State Park with beautiful water and clear. Lake Catherine State Park we pulled into and right back out - didn't get a good feel there! Several Arkansas State Parks are close to Hot Springs. Our favorite is also not far and it is Mt. Magazine State Park at the highest point in Arkansas.

We stayed at Catherine's Landing recently... very nice park.... but very little shade. Took a ride to look at other parks (we live nearby and expect to spend more time in HS), and was very impressed with Lake Catherine State Park... an absolutely beautiful rv park. Lake Ouachita State Park was another nice park. You could not go wrong with any of these three.

Gulpha Gorge is near downtown Hot Springs, has full hookups. Would agree that Ouachita State park (Section A , with full hook-ups) is very nice.

Lake Catherine: There is a huge powerplant you look at from the campground. Also Nanny of the sites they had for us in direct sunlight. Lsstly, several loops we tried to look at were very rough on our motorhome. Granted some sites were fine but we, DW and myself, got that "keep going" feeling. We don't get that often - hard to explain. Maybe just too much EMF from power plant. We have camped in lots of places and don't normally get that odd feeling. Some people love the place.

As you enter the camping areas..... the first loop on the right has the best spots... newer... landscaped... more room between. The area to the left is closer to the water, but older and has not been upgraded like the first loop on the right.
We did drive up to Royal, AR (Lake Ouachita) to look at a COE campsite.... but was not impressed... very old... not maintained well... and a heck of a long way from civilization. We did not drive down to Lake Degray to look at the COE camps there.

You can also try Crystal Springs camping area on Hwy 270 just down from Royal, nice camp with lake front parking. Swimming beach and play area. Very Clean.
