Hyder, Alaska, bears

Anyone stopped at Fish Creek in Hyder in the last week for bear viewing? Are they still there? We are leaving Wasilla in the next week headed South and will stop if they are still feeding in Fish Creek.

We were in Hyder roughly a month ago and the fish had not started running so no bears then. We did take the drive up to the glacier there and it is very beautiful. You might try calling one of the RV parks or the forest service there to ask about the bears.

We met a couple in Prince George, BC a couple days ago who had just come from Hyder. They did not see one bear.

If you go to Hyder, I 2nd that the drive up to Salmon Glacier is well worth it. It's awesome!!! When we were there Aug. 20th-24th of 2012, the bears were out and active.

Bears out on the 20th & 21st of Aug

I was in Hyder the 20 th & 21st 2014. Saw a black bear the first night and 2 grizzlies the 21st with a wolf to boot.

Saw a black bear with two cubs walking under the Welcome to Hyder sign 7:30 in the morning, as I was being searched by customs. My fault I had an empty beer can on console of car from day before. LOL

Brown bears were out both days, others saw them I was not there. Mostly early morning and early evening. As they say before 9 am and after 6 pm.
