I-15 Just west of Barstow > CA-58
CA-58 through Bakersfield to I-5
NOTE - In Bakersfield, CA-58 will use CA-99 for a mile or so. You can either stay on CA-99 all the way up to Sacramento or stay on CA58 and it intersects I-5 about 10 miles west of Bakersfield.

If you were to stay on Arizona 95 to Parker, then enter Calif, you'll run into US 95 at the far edge of California's bug station....

Yah - Its good 4 lane all the way between Mojave and Bakersfield. Over the past few years they've actually rebuilt and re-routed 58 between Mojave and Tehachiapi
If you go thru LA, and up I-5 thru the Grapevine, thats a good climb, so its a wash either way..

Not sure what mountians your refering to into LA. From Yuma head west on I-8 to north on hiway 86. Hiway 86 will run into I-10 west bound go to I-210. Go north on I-215 north to US 395 north. At Kramer junction turn left onto hiway 57. Go to Bakersfield & take
US 99 north. US 99 & I-5 will merge north of Sacramento.
This route will take you around all of the LA traffic.
Guess how I know.

Again, thanks to all who are suggesting alt routes around LA!
When I was a kid, we lived in LA and took our boat to Blythe for waterskiing many weekends. There was a bit of mountain on 10 on the way out. Similarly on I-8 going into San Diego. Just a quick climb, then back down, then pretty flat the rest of the way.
It is those mountain passes that I am worrying about.

Just be careful of the 395. This road probably has the greatest chance of snow or weather being on the Eastern Sierras.
Enjoy. Either side of the Sierras is some of the most beautiful road on earth.
