I 40 rest stop near Albuquerque?

We are heading to the Grand Canyon after Thanksgiving and would like to stop over night at a rest stop. Is there a rest stop on I40 between Albuquerque and Flagstaff?

Thanks

There is a small campground at the Meteor Crater park in Winslow. Is about 60 miles east of Flagstaff.

In 2015 we boon docked at the Sandia Casino, easy on/off from the interstate and a couple fueling stations right there.

I have used the Twin Arrow Casino east of Flagstaff right off I40. They have a semi parking area on the south side and a RV parking area on the north side of the casino, nice place. Watch the cattle guard coming into the lot. Drive around to the east side and follow the RV signs.

There is a big Casino just west of Albuquerque about ten miles past the top of the hill, and they have a really big parking lot, and a good buffet, and also have fuel station! Way better than a RA! Rail!

There is a great phone app called USA Rest Stops. I use it a lot when I travel. Works great, it also lets you know if the Rest Area is closed. The app says there are nine rest stops on I-40 in New Mexico, and 5 in Arizona, 2 that are between NM border and Flagstaff, AZ. As others have stated, there are a few casino around Albuquerque. Mile marker 207 westbound is the closest rest area that has truck parking {RV}. The one at mile marker 302 WB is closed.

There are two on each side EB and WB. One set is between Flag and Winslow and the other set is at the AZ and NM borders. All four are big and nice. Stayed at all four.

Used to live in ABQ, the casino you are referring to is Route 66 Casino.

Yes, that's the Meteor Crater RV Park. We stayed there a week ago. Nice RV park and secure (need a gate code). Water and electric only: $28.00.

I have spent quite a bit of time researching this same issue. It seems that there are a number of "RV parks" and "campgrounds" near I-40 but reading reviews of them, the common theme is lack of security, panhandlers, stray dogs, permanent residents, trash, unusable showers and restrooms, etc. I have some ideas why this is so but won't comment here. In any case, Sky Casino at exit 102 in NM, at North Acomita Village has an RV park that gets good reviews and from street view and satellite view looks rather nice for what it is, a casino Rv park.

Also, right at Winslow, is Homolovi State Park, which has camping and is adjacent to town and the interstate, and has neat stuff to look at, former Hopi lands with trails, camping, a museum, petroglyph site.

I tend to look for campgrounds for overnights for security and power, but other places can work just as well for a few hours rest.

Charles
