I-40 West From Oklahoma City?
It has been about 3 or 4 years since I was on I-40 from Oklahoma City west, we take it about 40 miles and turn off northward towards Geary/Watonga. That road used to have joints in it so that you would literally be going 'ka-chunk' 'ka-chunk' for 40 miles and it was bad even in a car.
Has anyone been through that way recently? How is the interstate 40 now from OKC west?
Someone told me it had all been re-done and was very nice now. I want to confirm that for sure.
Thanks!!

The Watonga road, just like US 81 has been that way for thirty five years (so I'd be surprised). I was on 81 recently, and they have made major improvements, so you might look at taking it N as far as Kingfisher, then W to Watonga (although i don't know why anyone would want to go to Watonga ... they always knocked my hometown out of the football playoffs)
I was on I 40 Eastbound a month ago, and felt it was pretty good road. Diesel and gas cheaper on the OK side of the Texas border, and if you're going further west, cheaper on the TX side of the NM border.

The worst part is from about Morgan road west to just east of the yukon exit. They have redone parts of it and I saw on the news this morning that repairs are going to start on the rough portion soon. When you exit headed north to Geary the road is good. There is a little construction between Geary and Watonga but nothing that bothers travel.

Thanks folks. I just really hate that road from OKC west, traveled on it so many years I got worn out. May take 287 up instead.

I go over there every month or so and although it's still pretty bad, it's not as long. They have been working on it and it's getting shorter. What used to be around 15 miles of heavy rattling, bouncing, and everything else, is now down to around a 3 - 5 miles.

We use I40 from AR to AZ on our yearly trip, just last month, and it wasn't that bad.. I think it was worse in NM. It IS rough in OKC, but we took Kilpatrick turnpike around, so not as bad that way.
