I'm looking for a nice campground with hook-ups in the mountains of North Western Carolina mountains.
I have no interest in staying in Cherokee but I wouldn't mind staying close. Does anyone have a nice one that they can recommend for a fifth wheel? We would be going the first part of August. Thanks

Hi Florida Camper we stay at Creekside RV Resort at Murphy which is South of Bryson City. It is a very neat easy in and out 50 amp cable etc adult and VERY quiet campground of about 24 sites. Very landscaped and owned by very conservative people. Was arround $20 a day last time we stayed there.

You might like Bear Den Campground located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's located in the playground of the Western North Carolina High Country near Spruce Pine. Spruce Pine is the Gemstone Mining Capital of the US and the 48th annual NC Mineral and Gem Festival will be held August 4-7 this year.

Other nearby attractions are the Biltmore House in Asheville, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, Mount Mitchell, and Tweetsie Railroad to name but a few.

Another favorite is Raccoon Holler Campground, also on the Blue Ridge Parkway but a little farther north. Most of the sites have full hook ups, a few with water and electricity. Cable TV is available and all the sites are shaded and level and many of their roads are paved. There is a five acre lake surrounded by sandy beaches brimming with catfish and bass waiting for you to catch them.

It's at 3200 feet elevation and you'll love the cool nights at that elevation.

Hey HitchHiker,

Since floridacamper said he "would not like to stay in Cherokee, but wouldn't mind staying close" How about where we had our spring rally last year? I can't remember the name, you know the campground owned by Betty Brown!!

Great suggestion, Al!

It's name is Timberlake Campground. It's on 150 acres in the heart of the Smoky Mountains and it's close to the eastern border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's not far from Fontana Dam, Cherokee Indian Reservation, Ruby Mines, Maggie Valley and Ghost Town, Indian Drama "Unto These Hills", Newfound Gap, Clingman's Dome, Whitewater Rafting and other points of interest.

You might check out Cascade Lake, near Brevard, NC =
www.cascadelakerecreationarea.com

Also, look at Rutledge Lake, at Fletcher, NC, close to Asheville and Hendersonville.
