Natchitoches is the oldest town in the original Louisiana purchase, 1714. Several movies were filmed here . . .horse soldiers, steel magnolias, man in the moon and others. We have a nationally listed historic district with shops and restaurants. Alligator farm. Tours of plantations and movie locations. Check us out online.
Bad news is we have no really nice rv parks, but several campgrounds. Nicest is probably Nakatosh cg at I-49 and LA 6. https://www.natchitoches.com, www.Natchitoches.net
and a killer hardware store downtown

Well we are home from nearly a month touring around Louisiana. While we were not able to see everything that you suggested we did see A LOT! Some of the highlights in no order were Jackson Square, Café de Monde, French Market, Bourbon Street, Oak Alley Plantation, Melrose Plantation, Baton Rouge Capitol, Tabasco, Rip Van Winkle Gardens, Houma, Betty’s RV Park in Abbeville (went for four nights, stayed for eight), Swamp Tour, Kaffie-Frederick General Mercantile in Natchitoches, and last but certainly not least beautiful Natchez. I tried to blog entries on each day but the days were so full it was difficult. If you’re interested here it is: https://galewalton.wordpress.com/ I can’t thank you enough for your suggestions. Because of you we made memories that will last a lifetime! If anyone has any questions about specifics just let me know.

Everyone please note... I believe the op is speaking of Natchez, Mississippi. You don't really want to visit Natchez Louisiana near Natchitoches. Nothing there. Lol.
Gauke, I'm sure glad you had a safe and enjoyable trip.

Oops - yes, Natchez, Mississippi although we did stay right across the river in Vidalia, LA. Between the RV and the car we put about 4000 miles on them!

We so enjoyed our trip to Louisiana. Isn't Natchez beautiful? Now planning a trip to Michigan for July. If you have any pointers please send them on!

You might want to start a new post for Michigan. Folks won't find your interest in Michigan in a Louisiana post.

However, definitely visit the Traverse City area including Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Platte River campground in the park is great. We volunteered there nine seasons. Also, July is the Traverse City Cherry Festival and it's a packed area. Either get a reservation very early or change months. Mid-Sept to Mid-October is a beautiful time for northern Michigan with the fall colors.

Thanks. I've got most of the trip already mapped out and waiting on one campground to return my call about a reservation. I usually don't make reservations this early but thought I'd better for July and i was right! I did a search for Michigan on this forum and got a lot of good tips so decided not to post again.
