Illinois camp grounds.
Wife and I are planning our annual trip to see her family in Kentucky. We don't take the 5-er because its old and I don't think its up the the journey. We just stay in hotels on the way.
This year I bought a old slide in pickup box camper. Still have the 5er but got the slide in for going down there until we can afford a RV. We usually cut across Missouri on hy 36 and hit Springfield ill. That is the half way point. From there we cut across 2 lane to Effingham then drop down to I 64. That way I skip Kansas city, St Louis and the horrible I 70 Missouri hills and traffic. Anyway I was wondering if anyone knew of a decent cheap campground anywhere in Illinois between Springfield and Evansville Indiana. We will have 3 of our boys along. Ages 16, 5 and 2.

If you reach Evansville, IN looking for an overnight spot, check out:
Vanderburgh 4-H Center Evansville, Indiana
201 E. BOONVILLE-NEW Harmony RD
Evansville, IN 47725
(812) 867-6217
Lat, Lon: 38.09172, -87.56296
That is about the only CG in/near Evansville.
AT Springfield is the Double J CG
halfway between is Wayne Fitzgerald SRA
Another option is to overnight at the Pilot/Flying J in Effingham,IL They have RV parking spots in front of the store, away from the big trucks. They are open 24/7, so restrooms, restaurant, and snacks are quite handy, parking cost=free.

The double J looks nice. What I was hoping for is like in Nebraska most small towns have a campground in the city park for 12-15 bucks a night. Most are not advertised. I would like to find something like that.
