Having grown up in southern IN, then spending a few yr in OH, I would recommend Brown county, Nashville IN, and then The mounds in OH. Also the Salt fort area in OH is nice. Both states the southern half is rolling hills, northern Flat, so more 'nature' for me was the southern.

Amish country in either NE OH/W IN would be great that time of year. They will also be packed with tourists so traffic will be very busy on weekends.

S/SE OH will be beautiful for fall color mid/end-Oct. Most all the OH state parks & many private CG's have Halloween weekends in Oct so those are most likely already booked full, but you wouldn't have a problem getting sites during the week.

Extreme NE OH will have fall color early in Oct. 25 wineries in the Geneva area make for several days of wine trail treking & enjoying the beautiful views on the patios of some of the larger wineries.

The Ohio state parks are some of the best in the country. October is generally pretty decent weather but can be on the cool side. If you like nature and outdoor activities the Hocking Hills area is amazing. If you like shopping and good food you can go to the Amish area and find plenty of both. Zanesville is a famous for pottery and has free tours. if you really want to get off the beaten path you can take you RV over to put-in bay. Check out the Ohio Parks site their are many other good places to see. Brown county in Indiana is also a great place that has scenery and shopping.

There are some good festivals if you like that sort of thing. The biggest in October is the covered bridge festival.

Parke County :: Covered Bridge Festival

Also a smaller one the 1st weekend in October in Cataract Falls area.

Cataract VFD Bean Dinner Festival | Owen County Indiana Visitors Center

the area of OH you were looking at would help because like others have eluded to the things to do and places to see vary greatly across the state. Can never go wrong with Lake Erie. Kelly's island is a great place to visit with vineyards and other places to tour. Very laid back place and geared more towards mature people versus put in bay which, in my opinion, is more for the younger party crowd.
Old man's cave in south central Ohio is pretty neat and within driving distance of Columbus. Amish country in north central. Plenty to do here....just depends on what your interests are.

A stop at the RV Hall of Fame Museum near Elkhart is almost mandatory. They had some great exhibits of old RV's.

If you are going up to Lake Erie, Maumee Bay State park has nice, level, paved, large-ish sites. It is in the center of a world class birding area, with several other nature preserves around it. Oh and there's a golf course, beach, and a marina with docks big enough for a 45' boat. Or is that a yacht? :-)

Ohan it seems that some (most? All??) Ohio state parks now accept Passport America.

And I forgot to mention the gorgeous Mohican State Park - nice campground, fishing, kayaking, and Malabar Farm. REALLY gorgeous in the fall.
