Indianapolis to Acadia National Park
Headed out in a couple weeks via I-90, 290, 495. Will make it a two stop trip (1250 mi). Any suggestions of what to see through Pennsylvania and New York? Thanks!

Oops, never mind Pennsylvania. Won’t be in the state on this route.

There's so much to see in Maine I would spend all my time there.

Just returned from Acadia yesterday. Went from Ohio to Maine. Lots to see in Maine. We stopped in New Hampshire and road the cog train to the top of Mt. Washington. Quite a view! Don't know if you have reservations, but we stayed in Ellsworth Maine (Forest Ridge Campground). Not a fancy place, but probably the nicest campground owners we have ever met. It's only about a 20 minute drive from there to Acadia.

Maine....Not go great
We recently also took this trip from Columbus to Bar Harbor and Orchard Beach, Maine. The first 3 weeks were through Pennsylvania and New York. There was very little I liked about the coast of Maine....it's much too touristy.
However, we really liked New York, particularly Watkins Glen (and wineries !!)and the Lake Placid area. The drives in New York were beautiful....assuming you don't take any four lane highways. I'm not sure there are any !!
I will say that the one thing I enjoyed at Orchard Beach was a lobster "fishing" trip, which really was not fishing, but interesting.
Also....on our way back, we drove around New York City and Boston. If you can possibly avoid it, do so !!
Hope you have a good trip !!

We just traveled thru NY and are now in Acadia ( well just outside at Narrows Too) . In NY we stopped at Letchworth State Park. Nice waterfalls and places to hike. Our campsite was huge but electric only, 50 amp. From there we went to Lake George for a few days before going to Old Orchard Beach then up to Acadia.

Well, now we’ve decided to travel to Niagara Falls rather than all the way to Acadia. Staying at 4 mile creek state park https://parks.ny.gov/parks/6/details...edium=referral..
We will stop somewhere between Indy and there, just not sure where. Sara’s in Erie looks too crazy.

Agreed they get bad reviews.
We're also leaving NE. OH. next week for Acadia on a 6 week trip. 5 days Worlds End State Park, NE. PA., 4 at Gifford Woods State Park central VT, 7 at Lake Dunmore Kamperville North Central VT, 4 at Fransted campground NH., 3 at Jigger Johnson US Forest Service NH., 7 at Blackwoods in Acadia, 7 at Schoodic in Acadia then do a small loop up in New Brunswick to Fundy National Park and Hopewell Rocks.
The problem I'm finding is the route back to Northeast Ohio there is no direst route. I'm planning to avoid the NY. turnpike by going down I-88 & 86 back to I-90 in PA.

Rod, we left on a Thursday after work and stopped at a road side rest in PA and got a few hours sleep. Got up Fri morning and drove to Old Orchard beach area in southern Maine and spent the wk-end there. Then on Sunday drove up to Acadia area and stayed til Fri. Left on Fri. and went to New Hampshire for a night to ride the cog train to the top of Mt. Washington, then returned back home on Sunday. We had plenty of time to see what we wanted to see. If you need a place to stay in Acadia area check out Forest Ridge Campground in Ellsworth Maine. It's not a fancy place, but the sites are large pull thru with full hookups . The owner's are super nice people and will give you plenty of area info and things to do and see. It's only a 20 min. drive to Acadia from the campground.
