Hey guys and gals,

We are in the midst of planning a major vacation. The destinations are known and two campgrounds are known. I need some input on the rest. Here is the tentative itinerary:

Leave Hanover, PA June 28/29
Arrive Ashville, NC June 28/29 to visit the Biltmore Estate
Arrive Chattanooga, TN (Best Holiday Trav-L-Park of Chattanooga) for the eastern IDI weekend July 1
Arrive Stone Mountain, GA July 6
Arrive Myrtle Beach, SC (Huntington Beach State Park) July 9
Arrive Hanover, PA July 16

Couple of things I would like opinions on:
I-95 and then west or I-81?
Places to stay near the Biltmore and Stone Mountain.

Ashville is strictly to see the Estate and Stone Mountain is a bit more leisurely – I have a sister in Lilburn. I can boondock, but would much rather have electric for AC. Water and sewer for those two stops is not a big issue.

Hey Joe,

First off sounds like a nice trip, best of luck with it!!! Second I think I-81 is a much nicer drive then I-95 any day!! Third we stayed at the campground right in Stone Mountain Park last April for about a week, and loved it. we were there with the Appalachian Campers for there Spring Rally. The Lazar show is a must as well as the cable car to the top of the mountain!! Hope this helps some !!

Joe, when we went to Asheville to see the Biltmore we stayed at nice place. I think it was called Bear Creek or something like that. It is in the campgrouund book.
Ya'll are really going to like the Biltmore. It is a great place to see. If you have the time be sure and take the whole tour of the place, including the winery. It used to be a dairy. You can also eat there. The restaurant is in what used to be the stables.
What is really neat is the Vanderbilt's still use the house as a residence.Of course you will not get to go to that part of the house. Unless you have a handicap tag it is a long walk from the parking lot to the house. Once you get in front of the house be sure and turn around and look back towards the hill in front of the house. The view is really something.
Enjoy yourselves it is an awesome place.
You can all the pictures you want to outside, but once you get inside the house no flash pictures are allowed.

Thanks guys.
I have relatives outside of Lynchburg so I have doen the I-81 trek a lot. Biltmore's web site recommended I-95, that is why I asked.

It has been a good 25 years since I have been there. The wife and kids have never seen it. I have promised the wife for years we would go. Having the IDI rally so close makes it a good time to visit.

My sis graduated from GA Tech in '79. I have been to the top of Stone Mtn once and never seen the laser show! We are looking forward to it.

I will look into those two sites.
