rustee, why don't you get the son-in-law to check with the folks on base. Lots of military bases have CG for active and retired personnel. Might get him to set up the deal and save you a couple of bucks.

I often go down that way. We typically stay at Holiday Travel Park in Emerald Isle. Very nice park. There are also some more permenant/long stay parks in Swansboro but never stayed at any of them. I would highly recommend the park on Emerald Isle, it is just across the bridge to the island and VERY CLEAN. Nice small bike path to town, etc. Email me if you have questions.

Try this site:

As was mentioned, your son-in-law will have to make the reservations.

Rustee,
Quite a few years ago, we stayed at Salter Path in Emerald Isle. It was a nice campground right on the ocean. I do think it has been hit by a hurricane or two since then, so I'm not sure of it's condition now. There weren't that many trees so it shouldn't have made much of a difference.

If you want something close to Jacksonville, there is a small campground right on hwy 17 about 15 miles out,at Maysville,NC White Oak River Campground, nothing fancy, but convenient. We have never stayed there, but it looks nice and clean.Emerald Isle is right much further away unless your plans also included right much "beach time".Salter Path did close at the end of the season. As mentioned before Holiday travel park use to be pretty good, haven't been there in a long time.
