James Island Campground Best Entrance Route

I have been to James Island Campground before, but I forget which is the best route in for a big rig. I will be coming in from the North most likely down Folley Rd.

Thanks in advance!

We were there two weeks ago. Google Maps routes you through Central Park Rd., which is OK if you're comfortable with narrow roads. When we came in, a city bus was heading the opposite direction and we both needed to get onto the berm to get through. The left turn onto Riverland is a challenge when there is traffic. For coming into the campground Camp Rd. is OK BUT don't plan to leave by that route during rush hour - the left turn onto camp is severe and short. Your rig will block both traffic lanes.

Folly Road and Camp Road didn't have as many low branches as arriving from the opposite direction.

We went in Folly to Central to Riverland. The left turn onto Riverland is a bit dicey, but doable. You might be better off taking Maybank/700 to Riverland and then straight in, but I did not drive that particular stretch.

Low hanging branches are everywhere, they do love their canopy roads there! But amazingly enough, they are all just high enough to clear anything - I believe they keep them all trimmed at 15' and from our experience, they are very diligent about it. Still was a little nerve-wracking driving through there.

Don't go down to Camp, you don't want to make that right turn onto Riverland in a big rig.

We ended up going in via Central Park and leaving via Camp Rd. Central Park is tight, but trees are high. Worst thing is the left turn onto Riverland, too much traffic. Camp Rd was fine leaving.
